Job Description


Location: This position will be based on the Bay Campus and also spending time with schools taking part in Project SIARC Phase 2, located around Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot.

Contract: Fixed-term for 28 months

Hour of work: 17.5 hour per week (50% contract)

The faculty of Science and Engineering at Swansea University is seeking application from enthusiastic and organised individuals to join us as a fixed term School Outreach and Engagement Coordinator to continue the work for Project SIARC Phase 2.

Swansea University is working with project delivery partners Zoological Society of London (ZSL) on Project SIARC (Sharks Inspiring Action and Research with Communities). Project SIARC is a collaborative project led by ZSL, and Natural Resources Wales (NRW), with the support of Nature Networks Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund and On the EDGE Conservation.

The marine environment in Wales is teeming with life, featuring diverse fish communities including little-studied species of shark, skate and ray (elasmobranchs) of conservation importance. Project SIARC (Sharks Inspiring Action and Research with Communities) will catalyse links between fishers, researchers, communities and government to collaborate and safeguard elasmobranchs and support a green recovery in Wales. The Faculty of Science and Engineering will be working with ZSL to deliver the school outreach programme as a part of Project SIARC, with a focus on STEM education and the use of digital engineering tools for primary school education.

The successful candidate will be working with academics from various disciplines as well as the wider Project SIARC team to coordinate the outreach programme for primary schools located around Carmarthenshire. The Schools Outreach Coordinator is expect to work flexibly based on the Bay Campus and from home. In addition, travel around Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot for school visits and around Wales for wider Project SIARC related support work.
