Job Overview:
As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the hotel, ensuring smooth operations across all departments including front of house, housekeeping, food & beverage, and maintenance. You'll play a key role in maintaining high standards of guest service, motivating a small but dedicated team, and supporting the hotel's long-term success.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a close-knit team environment, is passionate about hospitality, and has a flair for organisation and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily hotel operations, ensuring smooth and efficient service across all departments.
Lead and support team members in front desk, housekeeping, kitchen, and restaurant/bar operations.
Recruit, train, and supervise staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Maintain and monitor high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and guest service.
Manage rotas, holiday scheduling, and shift cover.
Monitor guest feedback and respond to reviews, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
Liaise with local suppliers and manage inventory to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing.
Ensure compliance with health and safety, food hygiene, fire regulations, and licensing laws.
Support the development and delivery of events, weddings, and seasonal promotions.
Assist with budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
Take responsibility for the hotel in the absence of the General Manager or owners.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Proven experience in hotel or hospitality operations (supervisory or management level).
Strong people management and leadership skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities.
A guest-focused mindset with a "can-do" attitude.
Confidence with IT systems (PMS, MS Office, EPOS, etc.).
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as needed.
Desirable:
Knowledge of the Lake District area and local tourism.
First aid and/or health & safety training.
