Nursery Pre-School Manager (Term Time)

Fixed Term, Full Time

Up to \xc2\xa324,855 per annum, full time equivalent

Working Style:

Please note that this position is being offered as a Fixed Term Contract for a period of 12 months and is a full-time position, offering 37 hours per week and is a term time role covering 44 working weeks per year / 50.38 paid weeks per year.

The Opportunity

Adult Community Learning (ACL) is Essex County Council\'s (ECC) provider of lifelong learning experiences for Essex residents. ACL offers qualifications to help people move nearer to, enter or progress within the workplace, or gain skills to enhance life chances. The service focuses many of its programmes and activities on the hardest to reach communities within Essex. ACL learners have access to a diverse range of accredited and non-accredited courses which encourage creativity, healthy lifestyles, social inclusion and engagement.

ACL offers childcare facilities and the Nursery/Pre-school is registered with Ofsted and is also open to community children whose parents/carers are not attending ACL. The Nursery/Pre-school Manager will manage the childcare facilities offered at ACL, ensuring all standards set by Ofsted and Early Years are met. A key part of this role is to lead the team to ensure flexible childcare and positive outcomes for all users to provide a nursery/pre-school which reflects standards required by ECC.

Educated to a minimum of level 3 in Childcare and with significant experience of managing the provision of childcare in a diverse setting. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and a commitment to delivering a high quality service.

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the operational management of the nursery/pre-school and outreach creche facilities to deliver a high quality childcare service. Including day to day nursery finances, staffing, health and safety and all other resources.
  • Responsible for benchmarking, updating and communicating all key policies and procedures and actively addressing and/or resolving complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Establish, develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with relevant Local Authority Departments, regulatory bodies and other agencies, for example Health Visitors and Special Education Needs (SEN) services and schools to develop high quality service delivery.
  • Lead a team to foster open and honest communication and create and maintain a culture of self-evaluation and reflective practice, throughout the nursery, to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Proactively represent the Nursery/Pre-school to advance its interests in the local community. Ensure that the setting has an Equality Named coordinator and oversee the role responsibilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring practice and provision in the nursery meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Responsible for providing rich, stimulating and diverse indoor and outdoor play activities, to ensure all EYFS and children attending the nursery, receive appropriate experiences to their age and stage of development.
  • Responsible for providing information to senior management concerning Nursery/Pre-school provision, to ensure those delivering frontline services are aware.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Person and/or the Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND) coordinator within the setting or, ensure a qualified trained member of staff is in place. Deal with or, support the designated person, with any issues as they arise, attending Child Protection/Child in Need/SENCo meetings as required.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

The Experience You Will Bring
  • Educated to a minimum of level 3 in Childcare and significant experience of managing the provision of childcare in a diverse setting.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Experience of planning and providing activities and play opportunities to develop children\'s emotional, physical, social and intellectual capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with both children and adults. Confident to react calmly, quickly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Evidence of building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Excellent leadership skills and behaviours and experience of motivating a diverse team to achieve shared objectives.
  • Commitment to quality in all areas, with a high level of motivation, enthusiasm and ability to perform under stress.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude and a real focus on customer service
