At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents\' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

You will need a full, current, UK driving license for this role. You will NOT be expected to use your own vehicle but will instead be added on to our open mobility insurance and will use our client vehicles.

Where will I be working?

We are providing support for adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.

We support 9 individuals within the Hemsworth area across 3 properties, they each have their own tenancy in their home, we have vacancies in 2 properties that we are recruiting to.

There are 3 ladies in their own home who require support in all aspects of their lives. Delivering support that is person centred to everyone which can include managing their home, some personal care, accessing social activities such as, swimming Cinema, music sessions, bowling, sensory room, days out to the seaside. It is also important to them to maintain contact with people who are important in their lives. The individuals you would be supporting use non-verbal communication but are able to communicate their needs in other ways.

For those applying for these services we require females only, who hold a UK driving license but you do not need to use your own vehicle as one will be provided.

Within one of the other properties, we have a small staff team supporting 3 (2 female & 1 Male) individuals within their own home and we would like to add you to that team of staff. You will be required to provide person-centred support in all aspects of their lives, including managing their home, some personal care (including regular use of wheelchairs and mechanical hoists), accessing their local community facilities, and maintaining contact with other important people in their lives. You will be supporting people will a mixture of verbal skills, a mixture of cognitive skills, limited mobility, and some associated health conditions.

We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals\' lives, therefore the role will also include helping with various activities such as, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.

We use a digital social care record system, to support daily recording, which will make your day-to-day tasks easier and allows you to spend more time with the People We Support.

Training and Development

We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.

  • Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
  • Level 3 Operational Team Leader
Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.

Shift Patterns

We provide support 24/7, 365 days per year, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00am to 2:00/3:00pm and 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00pm, sleep ins and some weekends.

Please note that the shifts may vary, we are able to offer flexible working if it meets your needs and the individuals needs that you are supporting.

Role Responsibility

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
  • promoting the independence of people we support
  • supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
  • arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • developing Individuals\' life skills and personal interests
  • supporting individuals to stay safe and healthy
  • assisting with personal care needs
  • manual handling
  • supporting people with medication
  • ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.

What skills and qualities do I need to have?

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn\'t essential. What is essential is that you are:
  • passionate, caring and enthusiastic
  • flexible, patient and non-judgemental
  • a great team player with lots of energy
  • able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety
