Role Purpose:
Leading role in establishing tax expertise within the Bank to enable the finance function to support the business in all tax matters and to ensure all Tax reporting is managed effectively and efficiently.
Working in a team, your role will include over-seeing all aspects of tax compliance for London Branch.
Responsible for the delivery of all tax related matters of the UK business to enable the business to formulate appropriate strategies to achieve the corporate objectives of London Branch.
What You\'ll be Doing Each Day:
Advise/support the Corporate Banking & Financial Institutions Group and Treasury function in ensuring tax risk is minimised on lending transactions, derivative trades and new products. This will include appropriate sign off on all tax related matters in respect of these transactions.
VAT, management of PESM, preparation of reports and complex query support for Accounts Payable ("AP") team.
Supervise AP deliverables to ensure corporation tax computations and VAT Returns are prepared accurately and in a timely manner; whilst also helping to lead or co-lead on automating / optimising AP processes. [NB: automation will need to be delivered in 2023 well ahead of HMRC\xe2\x80\x99s Making Tax (i.e., Corporation Tax) Digital time-lines.
All aspects of corporation tax compliance for the Branch are planned and managed so as to optimize the tax position (critical focus will be on ensuring that the underlying data and information required for monthly corporate tax computations are complete, accurate and comply with the Tax legislation - e.g., Transfer Pricing; CATA calculations.
Advising on other tax related matters such as stamp duty, banking taxes and operational taxes
Responsible for managing the relationship with HMRC for Corporation Tax and VAT related matters and the relationship with external advisors.
Working with the Compliance department on managing compliance with EU DAC 6 rules as well as the Banking Code of Conduct for Taxation
Assessing and managing tax risk and ensuring that tax risks and exposures are detected, reported and remedied in a timely manner as part of the Tax Risk Management Policy.
Schedule meetings with Business Risk Owners to discuss and assess current technical developments.
Other ad hoc projects including research of tax issues for new markets, changes in tax regulations and tax assurance work
Quarterly reporting (to local senior management and HO) and Annual Report and Accounts for London Branch
Annual BEPS Country by Country Reporting
Quarterly UK Payment Arrangement Calculations
Annual Budget Plan (3-year forecast)
Ensure the Bank is compliant with the International Accounting Standard for Tax (IAS12) and appropriate and accurate tax disclosures.
Identify, report and escalate material risk events, including conduct risk events and conflicts of interest, or losses to the Head of Department.
The Skills You\'ll Need to Succeed:
Professional qualification in accounting/finance discipline, preferably with Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree
Qualified Tax professional having trained with a large accounting firm. You will have some financial services experience.
Experience working at a similar level, within Tax, banking with line management experience in the financial services sector
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft products and database skills are highly desirable.
Highly competent in communicating orally and in producing written reports and an ability to present recommendations, both oral and written.
An in-depth knowledge of UK Corporate Tax Legislation and a good understanding of VAT and the ability to apply them effectively in banking environment and Bank products in general.
