Job summary
The Royal Navy Principal Security Adviser (PSyA) are looking to recruit an Administrative Assistant to work within the Corporate STRAP / SAP Security team. STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets, whilst SAP is used to protect the MOD's most sensitive military capabilities and programmes. The Navy Corporate STRAP team provide support, guidance and facilitate processes for the assurance of all STRAP material, facilities, and assets Globally across the Naval Service both ashore and afloat.
Due to the nature of the role and security classification, most of the work will be required in the office-based location, although some flexible working adjustments may be arranged and mutually agreed with the line management. You will be located at PSyA HQ, at Jago Road in HMNB Portsmouth with some travel to HMS Collingwood where part of the team is located, you may be required to travel within the UK from time to time in support of the role.

Job description
Working in a busy environment alongside civil servants and military staff, this vacancy offers the successful applicant an excellent opportunity for an exciting and challenging career in the Defence security environment. You will be supporting the PSyA STRAP / SAP team with day-to-day support. You will be a critical team member, ensuring and facilitating the timely and accurate flow if information, documents and records up and down the chain including external stake holders. Additionally, you will be responsible for the accurate recording and filing of STRAP/SAP records, data, and artifacts to meet the expectations and objectives set by the policies and other statutory requirements. You will be the glue that enables and facilitates the rest of the team SMEs to be more responsive and agile in directly supporting units and operational objectives.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
You will have the following key responsibilities:
Manage and maintain the RN TLB STRAP/SAP data base(s)
Collate and record unit STRAP/SAP monthly returns, communicating issues to the PSyA Corporate STRAP/SAP Security Officer (CSSSO)
Maintain and supervise all Protective Security Registers in line with JSP440.
Maintain RN unit STRAPSO group emails.
Manage SharePoint files systems, distributing reports and associated documents when authorised by CSSSO SO1s, liaise with units to enable this
Update KPI reporting dash boards monthly
Conduct STRAP inductions / de-inductions when required
Be the CSSSO workspace coordinator liaising with PSyA Office Manager and STRAPSO on routine administrative requirements
Liaising with SPECAP on related SAP documentation and records
Support EO activities during leave periods
Provide and share STRAP Security clearances internally and externally as required
Ensuring data is correctly protected in line with policy and legislative requirements
Assist in the development and production of training, educational and awareness materials, and briefings

Person specification
Essential Skills and Experience
Hold a current DV clearance or be able to attain DV clearance
Must Hold UK Nationality
Experience with MS Office 365 applications, in particular Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Sharepoint
A positive and enthusiastic approach with a willingness to learn
To be comfortable working within a team but also can work with minimal supervision
Ability and confidence to build relationships and work up, down and across CoC both internally and externally
Enthusiastic, inquisitive and ability to learn new skills and ways of working.
Able to work at pace and priorities workloads to meet deadlines.
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of MOD Protective Security processes, ideally with direct experience working within the MOD's Security Policy Framework (SPF)
Security professional or knowledge of MOD STRAP Security processes
Working Knowledge of Cabinet Office Supplement
Good working knowledge of JSP 440
STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets. As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationalities may be ineligible), and candidates must either hold or be able to attain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearances. Additionally, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
