Job description

The position involves carrying out a body of experimental research to investigate how soft connective tissues are formed, how this process can be disrupted in disease and to harness this knowledge to engineer muscle tissue.

The candidate will coordinate and drive a research project studying the role of connective tissue fibroblasts in muscle development, disease and tissue engineering.

The candidate will be required to carry out scientific research to an international standard and to carry out experiments expertly and safely, trouble-shoot experiments effectively, contribute to training of others when appropriate. They will be required to accurately analyse and record data using appropriate record and note keeping, interpret and critically evaluate results, produce short written and oral reports of work carried out and to communicate results locally.

Work will be carried out in The Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics**.** The Randall Centre takes a multi-disciplinary approach at the interface of Biological and Physical Sciences to explore the underlying mechanisms behind common diseases.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 17th July 2023 - 31st December 2023

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and trouble-shoot own work
Contribute to collaborative decision making with colleagues in area of research
  • Develop research objectives for own or joint research, with the assistance of the supervisor
  • Work with colleagues from various disciplines on joint projects as required Attend and contribute to relevant meetings
  • Be aware of the risks in the work environment and their potential impact on own work and that of others

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. BSc and/or MSc in a biomedical discipline relevant to the project

2. Knowledge of embryology/cell and developmental biology

3. Experience in embryology/developmental biology methods

4. Experience in Imaging and microscopy

5. Ability to work independently and trouble-shoot own work

6. Ability to communicate (oral and written)

Desirable criteria

1. Experience in embryo culture and tissue culture

2. Analysis of large-scale \'-omics\' databases
