Job Summary
We are seeking an NVQ Level 2 (or above) qualified dispenser or equivalent to join our dynamic Medicines Technician team at St Mary's Surgery and Priors Field Surgery. This vital role supports the safe and efficient management of medications through structured, protocol-based practices. As a Medication Management Technician (MMT), you will play a key part in handling repeat authorisations, processing discharge summaries, and managing acute medication requests. In doing so, you will contribute to delivering a high-quality, patient-centred service and provide essential support to our clinical team--helping us ensure that every patient receives an outstanding healthcare experience.
1. Medication Management
Manage repeat medication authorisations using protocol-based systems and software tools like Abtrace.
Adjust repeat medication templates and resolve out-of-stock issues using alternative dosages.
Process acute medication requests, ensuring accurate documentation and timely responses.
Handle discharge summaries, update patient records, inform patients of medication changes, and liaise with community pharmacies as needed.
Support new patient registrations, assisting with medication entry, reviews, and initial prescriptions.
2. Patient Care and Support
Provide patients with medication information based on discharge summaries or clinical instructions.
Collaborate with MDT to resolve medication-related queries and concerns.
Support medication coordination and delivery for nursing home residents.
3. System Management and Optimisation
Operate and support electronic prescribing systems such as SystmOne.
Address medication-related queries via Ask My GP, emails, and paper-based systems.
Assist with setup and maintenance of eRD and formulary management.
4. Collaboration with the Dispensary Team
Work closely with dispensary staff to ensure efficient medication issuance and stock management.
Advise on procurement and ensure adherence to local formulary.
5. Compliance and Patient Safety
Follow standardised protocols to enhance safety and consistency in medication handling.
Identify discrepancies through medication reconciliation and initiate corrective actions.
Support clinical audits, QOF/IIF targets, and other safety-related evaluations.
6. Professional Development and Team Support
Mentor new technicians and support training initiatives for dispensary and clinical staff.
Liaise with clinicians and support their decision-making with accurate medication records.

Person Specification
Essential:
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent experience
- Competence using digital tools and software
- Good communication skills
- Attention to detail and adherence to protocols
Desirable:
- Experience with SystmOne
- Previous experience in a GP or community pharmacy setting
