About the role

Are you looking to take your first steps into media relations or build on your existing experience? The Local Government Association is looking to employ as a media relations officer to support our busy news team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join one of the busiest press offices in England. Alongside providing administrative support to the team, you will also be given the opportunity to gain experience of proactive and reactive media work which sets the news agenda and secures positive, high-profile, national news coverage for local government.

Main duties will include:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the team to ensure its core activities are effectively undertaken.
  • Support the Director Communications with diary management, directorate meetings and the production of a weekly communications bulletin to council communications teams.
  • Draft press releases, statements and other written materials where appropriate and with guidance.
  • Assist with and attend LGA events and conferences as and when required.
We are in the national media every day on behalf of our members promoting the efforts of councils and pushing for local government to have the funding and powers to improve the lives of their communities.

As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from \xc2\xa330,151 pa or office-based from \xc2\xa334,081 pa (including London Weighting). Office-based working will be in line with the LGA\'s flexible working policy, where staff work have to attend our Westminster office a minimum of one day a week.

About you

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
