About the role

As a Team Leader at GHD you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals specialising in the delivery of discipline specific projects. In addition to managing your own portfolio of projects you will be accountable for the performance of your team and be someone who strives to motivate, develop and engage and assure the wellbeing of their team members.

The role will be based from either our Chester or Leeds office, but we do operate a hybrid working environment, which provides the opportunity to work from any of our other UK offices and from home. You will be required to travel to other UK Offices on a regular basis.

Core responsibilities

delivery of discipline specific projects. In addition to managing your own portfolio of projects you will be accountable for the performance of your team and be someone who strives to motivate, develop and engage and assure the wellbeing of their team members.

People Leadership

  • Ensures that workload management (People Planner) and competency management processes are followed within the team
  • Collaborates with own technical discipline within the Region to secure additional projects needed to maintain own team members and personal utilisation
  • Develops team members in line with the Discipline capability matrix, ensuring all employees have access to high quality engaging performance check-ins
  • Takes proactive steps to improve motivation, retention and engagement of team
  • Make recommendations to the Discipline Design Lead for the appointment of Project Managers and Design Team members.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and quality within the team
  • Inputs to talent management and succession planning processes
  • Participates in hiring processes to identify suitable candidates
  • Drives financial performance through performance of self and team members on projects and accountability
Project Delivery
  • You will be responsible for medium size projects in the role of Design Lead, overseeing design quality checks and reviews
  • You may be called upon to be responsible for projects in the role of Design Manager or Project Manager on small single discipline projects.
  • Communicates and delegates assignments and sets internal deadlines for projects, ensuring that assignments and tasks are completed on time and in line with quality requirements
  • Develops business by ensuring client loyalty and repeat work through promoting excellent customer service and delivery across team and on projects
  • Identifies and resolves quality, budget or time risks, escalating to the Design Manager where not possible to resolve themselves
  • Participates actively in lessons learned session
