It\'s an exciting time to join one of our Early Careers programmes at QinetiQ. We are always looking for great people to join our team, whether you are taking your first steps in starting a career or you are looking to make a career change, we have a wide range of exciting opportunities for you.
About the team:
You will join an established and growing Mechanical Design team, who work collaboratively alongside subject matter experts across multiple projects, technology domains and locations. Our designers (including our graduates) get the opportunity to take developments through the whole engineering lifecycle, from sitting with our customers to sketch out initial concepts, working with multi-disciplined project teams to iterate and refine detailed models and drawings, through to manufacturing, assembly and test. There are also opportunities to be involved with trials, compliance testing and delivery to customers, providing training to end-users and ensuring maintenance and through-life support.
The role offers the opportunity to have significant impact on the UK\'s future technological capabilities, example projects include: sensors and payloads for high altitude platforms such as Zephyr; high energy defensive laser weapon systems such as Dragonfire; electric vehicle propulsion systems such as E-X-Drive\xc2\xae.
What will I be doing?
Your work will require you to be designing and prototyping engineering solutions, developing and presenting your ideas, primarily in Solidworks. We need you to ensure your solutions meet the business and customer requirements - how you get there is highly flexible, with the potential to influence our own ways of working. If you want to improvise and quickly demonstrate the size and weight distribution of a future low earth orbit satellite using a pizza box, a roll of gaffer tape and a smarties tube, then you\'re talking our language and off on the right foot.
You will undertake a variety of tasks and you\'ll need to learn how to juggle a few projects at the same time, working closely with our project and resourcing teams, supporting your development and growth, through exposure to complex and challenging technical deliveries, often using your skills in a broader systems engineering context.
Our work is dynamic and our designs often need to adapt to changing requirements, with regular reviews and feedback, continuous improvement is core to the approach we expect you to take. You will receive in-role training on the use of software tools, design methodology and engineering techniques, as well as gaining an insight into the planning, management and execution of projects.
Every Career Path is different and we are supportive of that, with some great people and a wealth of experience to draw upon. We have a well laid out pathway to help guide our Engineers in their development, are supportive of Chartership and are passionate about our individuals learning a diverse set of skills. With this in mind, you\'ll soon be adept at leading packages of work, managing unusual and significant complex design challenges, being responsible and taking ownership of both your own work and that of others.
Academic requirements:
Applicants will have attained or be working towards a 2.2 or above in a STEM degree that includes a strong emphasis on Mechanical Engineering and/or some demonstrable relevant experience.
You will have experience in many (but not necessarily all) of the following:
