A full time position is available in the Faculty of Engineering and Science for a Mass Spectrometry Technician. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with experience and a strong interest in MS, and a desire to use and develop skills in this area. The role holder will assist in the running of the Mass Spectrometry Unit. Responsibilities will include all aspects of the maintenance and operation of mass spectrometers and auxiliary equipment. The selected candidate will provide technical support to both researchers and students and help train new researchers in the use of the techniques and equipment of the unit. The role holder will also be expected to support delivery of practical laboratory class sessions at BSc/MSc level. There will also be opportunities to support external consultancy work.
We are looking for a hardworking scientist who takes pride in their work, a good communicator who will enjoy liaising closely with our staff and students, and someone who enjoys working with state-of-the-art instrumentation to solve complex analytical problems. Our main userbase is predominantly drawn from within pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry and life sciences, with occasional users from other departments, and a good degree or equivalent professional qualification in chemistry or related scientific discipline is essential.
