Job Description


The British Academy - the UK\'s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking a Marketing Officer to join our Digital, Brand and Marketing department, to work with the Marketing and Brand Manager to execute an exciting new marketing strategy for the Academy\'s outputs.

ROLE PURPOSE / OVERVIEW

The Marketing Officer will work closely with the Marketing and Brand Manager to develop and execute a refreshed marketing strategy for the Academy\'s outputs, which will utilise a range of marketing channels including paid social media, email marketing and cross-promotional activities with other organisations. They will have the opportunity to work on major marketing campaigns for the British Academy Book Prize, the annual Summer Showcase and our new event programme, due to launch in Autumn 2024.

The Digital, Brand and Marketing team is also updating the Academy\'s digital outputs, including developing new digital assets and messaging for key digital channels. As well as working on the marketing strategy, the role-holder will act as a brand guardian for the Academy, advising colleagues on best practice for design and brand, and upholding the refreshed editorial and digital standards across the Academy\'s digital channels.

This role sits within the Communications Directorate, comprising Press and PR, Events, Publishing, and Digital, Brand and Marketing. The Digital, Brand and Marketing team is responsible for delivering a range of content across the Academy\'s digital channels, to ensure an excellent user experience and provide opportunities to showcase the Academy\'s work in engaging and accessible ways. The role-holder will have opportunities to work with colleagues across the Directorate, as well as across the wider Academy, and must be an effective communicator with experience of working with a range of stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver marketing campaigns for the Academy\'s outputs

Develop and execute marketing campaigns for the Academy\'s outputs, with a particular focus on our public, academic and lecture programmes

Advise colleagues about marketing and promotion, working collaboratively to resolve challenges and negotiate competing priorities

Produce paid social ads, email newsletter promotion and organise cross-promotional activities across different organisations

Act as brand guardian

Uphold editorial and digital standards across the Academy\'s digital channels, proactively identifying issues and suggesting improvements

Provide informed guidance on tone, content, schedules and target audiences

Advise colleagues on brand and design and ensuring that brand guidelines are adhered to across all design outputs including publications, posters, presentations and video content

Provide expert advice

Able to interpret data from standard analytic tools and use this to report on the performance of marketing campaigns

Provide digital marketing support for other departments and proactively resolve issues

Support the work of the Digital, Brand and Marketing team

Task-manage the Digital, Marketing and Brand Assistants as needed

Keep an eye on trends in digital media and feed ideas for development of these channels into the team

Manage relationships with external suppliers, including digital marketing agencies and design studios

QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to bachelor\'s degree level, qualified by experience, or equivalent

Highly skilled using the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Audition; equally comfortable editing audio, video and graphics
