We are seeking to recruit a part-time (ideally 80%) Marketing and Communications Manager to promote EMBL-EBI\xe2\x80\x99s courses and events. You will join a small peer group which forms part of the Training Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
Training is a core activity across EMBL-EBI, involving almost every part of the organisation and coordinated by a team of 26 people. The Training Team delivers a world-recognised programme that encompasses training delivered virtually and face-to-face to a global audience alongside self-paced online learning, up-skilling of trainers and secondments. The EMBL-EBI programme also sits under the umbrella of the EMBL International Advanced Training Centre (EICAT) where we work closely with colleagues across all EMBL sites to deliver the EMBL Course and Conference Programme.

Your role
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Your primary goal will be to contribute to the smooth running and high standards of EMBL-EBI\xe2\x80\x99s diverse and highly acclaimed programme of training events. You will be responsible for developing and communicating with the scientific community and generating participation in and audiences for the programme of conferences, courses and events. You will monitor and report on quality, effectiveness and reach of the programme. You will also take on lead responsibility as assigned for critical or specialised functions of the training team\xe2\x80\x99s marketing operations.

Main functions
Relevant, specialist experiences or abilities that enhance your contribution to the over-arching functions of the team
Liaise with the Industry Events and Marketing Officer and other appropriate parties to co-ordinate ideas, processes and content
Attend strategic meetings and liaise with the EMBL Marketing team to co-ordinate ideas, processes and content
Social media posts and content production, including strategies to increase user engagement
Management of digital and print marketing communications for campaigns, including emails, posters and advertisements
Creation, population and upkeep of event websites via content management systems
Statistical analyses and presentations (e.g. event statistics, web analytics, user behaviour)
E-mail marketing and coordination, including management of the \xe2\x80\x98Keep Me Posted\xe2\x80\x99 process
Producing content for the EMBL Events Blog
Proof reading
On-site and virtual marketing during events (taking photos, preparing slides, networking activities)
Working with the in-house graphic designer to ensure brand consistency across all marketing
Actively contribute to projects and working groups to advance the continuous development of the training team
Administrative functions necessary to the post
Assist with event organisation if required

You have
You will have significant practical experience in the marketing of events, preferably in the scientific industry.
You will have extensive knowledge of social media platforms, google analytics and experience with email campaign software such as Mailchimp
You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively as a part of a team and keep calm under pressure.
You will have a creative eye and excellent attention to detail, fluent and articulate written and spoken English language skills and an ambition to work in an international environment.
You might also have
There are no formal qualifications required for this role although a professional marketing qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body would be an asset.

Contract Type: Supernumerary - this contract type will be required to pay UK national insurance.
Contract duration: This position is a 1 year fixed-term contract for maternity cover.

Job location: This role is based in Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK. You will be required to relocate if you are based overseas and you will receive a relocation package to support you.
