Marine Superintendent
Job Overview:
As a Marine Superintendent, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Deputy Head of Marine in ensuring the compliant, safe and efficient operation of vessels within the company's fleet. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including vessel compliance, routine internal monitoring and audits, document management, safety promotion, and maintenance/dry dock planning. You will also be required to audit/survey 3rd party vessels pre and post charter and at the pre-purchase stage of procurement.
This role requires a keen attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Vessel Requisitions and Ordering:
Serve as the primary point of contact for vessel requisitions and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to fulfil operational needs.
Compliance Monitoring:
Monitor vessel compliance with regulations and industry standards.
Inform the Deputy Head of Marine of upcoming inspections and certificate expiry dates to ensure timely renewal and compliance.
Document Management:
Manage shoreside vessel document files, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility.
Routine Document Production and Submission:
Produce and submit routine documents to port authorities and agents, following the instructions of the Marine Superintendent or Marine Manager.
Vessel Audits:
Actively participate in vessel audits as per the company's internal audit program as well as 3rd party vessels.
Safety Culture Promotion:
Assist in promoting, improving, and developing the safety culture within the company, including the introduction of new safety initiatives.
Risk Assessment and Documentation Review:
Collaborate with vessel Masters to conduct periodic reviews of Risk Assessments, COSHH, and other related vessel documentation.
Maintenance Planning:
Work closely with Marine and Technical Superintendents to ensure efficient planning, preparation, and execution of vessel maintenance periods within set timelines and budgets.
Safety Bulletins:
Develop and circulate monthly safety bulletins to enhance safety awareness and knowledge among the maritime team.
Monthly Reporting:
Review vessel monthly Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Repair & Maintenance (R&M) submissions and provide reports to the Marine/Technical Superintendent as necessary.
Assist Marine Department:
Support the Marine Department by assisting the DhoM and Superintendents in day-to-day operations as required.
Relationships:
You will report directly to the DHoM and, where necessary, the Head of Marine or Marine Director, who together coordinate the 'Marine Team' workload and you will liaise with our Project and Fleet managers to support projects to challenging timescales.
Qualifications and Skills:
Master or OOW CoC
Knowledge of maritime regulations and industry standards.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Prior experience in feet compliance or a related field is advantageous.
Proficiency in relevant software and tools for document management and data analysis.
Working Conditions:
This position primarily operates in an office environment but may require visits to vessels or port facilities.
Flexible working hours may be necessary to accommodate vessel schedules and operational needs.
Occasional travel will be required to complete audits, inspections, or training purposes mainly in the UK, but also internationally.
