Balfour Beatty looking to make a critical leadership hire and appoint a Managing Counsel Corporate to lead members of the legal team delivering timely, pro-active, fit-for-purpose and cost-efficient legal services to Balfour Beatty's UK Enabling Functions business areas.
As Managing Counsel Corporate, you will provide proactive legal and business counselling on a broad range of corporate and commercial topics including related UK laws, acquisitions, refinancings, corporate governance, contracting and procurement/IT issues, data protection, intellectual property.
What you'll be doing
Harnesses the internal and external resources of the UK legal function to deliver fit-for-purpose, cost effective legal services and legal and compliance risk management to business operations in the area of responsibility
Works autonomously, sets policy and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organisation developing legal processes and procedures and overseeing implementation
Member of relevant leadership team(s), contributing an expert legal perspective to the development and implementation of operational strategy
In support of the AGC, engages and manages panel law firms to support operations; manages external lawyers on more complex matters
Strategic business adviser with strong understanding of business drivers and developed commercial acumen, sees beyond the legal specialism
Developing and implementing strategies to identify and mitigate legal risks to protect the company's reputation and assets
Staying abreast of regulatory changes and supporting with the design and implementation of company policies and procedures to respond to these.
Develop and deliver legal training for legal team, EFs and BUs
Stay abreast of new/changing legislation. Develop and maintain personal CPD
Effective control of overhead and project legal costs/budgets
Ensure personal compliance with all regulations and Company policies.
Support delivery of the Ethics & Compliance agenda by the Ethics & Compliance team
Ensure relentless personal focus on Zero Harm.
Who we're looking for
Qualified solicitor/barrister.
Proven in working on complex contracts/projects at a senior level.
Experience of working in-house, within large commercial organisation.
Performance driven, high energy and impact, strong organisational skills.
Ability to build, lead and inspire high performing teams.
Knowledge of construction/infrastructure industry is desirable.
