The Global Risk & Compliance Organization ("GRC") is an independent risk management function, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound and fully compliant manner within all applicable regulatory expectations.



As part of the GRC function, the International Card Services (ICS) Line of Business Compliance (LOBCO) team performs second-line oversight of the ICS business, ensuring a robust and sustainable compliance risk management framework.



The team is responsible for providing Compliance guidance and support on the management of strategic multi-country compliance risks and performing execution of core components of the American Express Compliance Program.


How will you make an impact in this role?





This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Compliance professional to join ICS LOBCO as part of the European team, working with 1st and 2nd line colleagues across international jurisdictions, incl. ICS Risk & Control, Market Compliance Officers (MCO), Global Privacy Oversight, Operational Risk Management and other Subject Matter Experts (SME) teams.



The position will report to the Director ICS LOBCO Europe. Among the specific responsibilities, this role will include:


Effective challenge and oversight of ICS risk reduction and mitigation activities, as required under the Compliance Risk Management Program and the broader Operational Risk Program Supporting the quarterly Compliance Assessment process and partnering closely with the MCOs and 2nd line SMEs to assess market and Business Unit impact. Understanding key risks, assessing compliance risks and reviewing performance metrics Providing effective guidance and independent challenge and governance for key initiatives impacting market legal entities. Supporting 1st line strategic initiatives or compliance projects. Providing Compliance oversight and guidance for ICS owned multi-market Issues/Breaches and ensure MCOs are engaged appropriately. Building highly collaborative partnerships with a broad group of stakeholders including General Counsel's Organization (GCO), MCOs, Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC), Global Privacy Oversight, Operational Risk Management, ICS Risk & Control and broader ICS business teams, to ensure compliance with Enterprise-wide policies and procedures and local regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:




Experience in executing Compliance risk management and oversight programs in a matrix organisation, addressing regulatory requirements including in the areas of Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, Anti-Corruption, Data Privacy, Business Conduct and Payments Regulations Compliance expertise in risk assessment, risk identification, articulation and escalation Expertise in control evaluation, including control design and effectiveness Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Ability to manage and drive assignments to completion, take on additional responsibilities and prioritise work in a constantly changing and deadline-driven environment Working knowledge of the payments industry and licensing models desirable Experience in independent testing, auditing an asset University Degree and/or Compliance qualifications
