Locum Consultant Cardiologist

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

Barts Health NHS Trust invites applications to join the Cardiology teams at UCLH and the Bars Heart Centre as a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with specific expertise in echocardiography and potentially also additional cardiac imaging.

This 10 PA appointment is principally based at UCLH (4 days per week) and the appointee will co-lead the development of this already busy clinical service. We are looking to start on-site stress echocardiography (exercise and dobutamine stress) and to expand our on-site TOE offering. This role will also consolidate the on-site Consultant support for our cardiac physiologist team. It will provide departmental leadership in areas such as audit, governance and quality assurance. The appointee will also assist in provision of clinical advice (particularly in relation to imaging) to our Acute Medical, ITU, Oncology and other specialist services at UCLH.

It is hoped that the successful appointee will also contribute to and extend the current research activities of the department.

Main duties of the job

There will also be involvement in General Cardiology Outpatient Clinics at UCLH (average of 1 clinic per week) and the UCLH Cardiology inpatient/ED/SDEC liaison service (1 week per month, weekdays). Additionally, there is a small on-call commitment (6 weekends per year, providing daytime-only ward rounds and referral reviews).

There is also one weekly clinical session at Barts Heart Centre (the details of which will be guided by the successful appointee\'s specific interests) plus the opportunity for participation in several specialist cardiac MDT meetings run from Barts e.g. general valve MDT, TAVI MDT, endocarditis MDT etc.

There is no participation in additional cardiac imaging modalities beyond echocardiography in the Locum job plan. However, there is potentially scope for this.
