An opportunity has arisen for a General Anaesthetic Locum Consultant with an interest in Intensive Care at Bedford Hospital, which is part of the newly merged Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement Anaesthetic Consultant post on the Bedford site. The successful candidate will join a friendly, inclusive, forward thinking and enthusiastic Anaesthetic Department of 21 consultants.
The Anaesthetic Department provides comprehensive services normally expected of a district hospital. These include Vascular (regional centre for Luton, Bedford & Milton Keynes), colorectal, urology, general surgery, breast surgery, trauma and orthopaedic, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT and oro-maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology and plastic surgery. This is supported by a 12 bedded critical care unit.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have 2 clinical sessions (1 day) in Intensive Care, and the remaining clinical sessions will be in the theatres. An ICM CCT is not essential. Additional special interest skills that will complement the current roles already provided in the department will be advantageous. Subspecialty interests for theatre sessions may be accommodated in various specialities.
The post will involve supervision of trainees, and the 2021 GMC survey shows that Bedford Hospital is one of the best trusts for anaesthetic training in East of England.
