Living Laboratory Business Development Manager

Job Purpose

The Living Laboratory Business Development Manager will play a critical role in driving the growth and success of the University of Glasgow\'s Living Laboratory programme. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and secure new business opportunities, foster partnerships and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will work closely with the Living Laboratory-GRID Healthcare Innovation Ecosystem Manager, Digital Health Validation Laboratory (DHVL)) leadership team and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver targets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead on the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing and sales strategies utilising market insights and competitor analysis to fuel business growth.

2. Cultivate a robust pipeline of funded projects and partnership opportunities by establishing contracts and collaborations with SMEs, academia, and industry partners.

3. Identify, initiate and drive impactful business deals between DHVL and the digital health industry, solidifying our position as a key player.

4. Collaborate closely with the DHVL Operations Manager to ensure efficient project planning, resourcing, and delivery.

5. Lead on developing and securing a mature pipeline of strategically relevant contracts/collaborations with SMEs, academia and industry and enhance direct commercial funding in support of the Living Laboratory activities.

6. Provide expert advice and regular progress reports to the leadership team and the DHVL Board, contributing to the business development strategy by highlighting progress, challenges, & opportunities.

7. Initiate and lead business attraction and bid initiatives to seize new opportunities.

8. Proactively build and maintain effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders, identifying opportunities and facilitating collaborations for new projects.

9. Stay up-to-date by monitoring developments in the digital health, diagnostics and imaging industries, regulations, and emerging technologies, seeking untapped areas for expansion.

10. Collaborate with the Living Laboratory leadership team to shape and define the overall business strategy and targets, implementing effective frameworks to track progress and KPIs.

11. Elevate the Living Laboratory and DHVL profiles by attending partnership meetings and presenting at conferences to engage potential clients and partners.

12. Liaise closely with the marketing team to align strategies with Living Laboratory and DHVL objectives and generate leads.

13. Gather valuable feedback from clients and potential customers to continually enhance the quality of the Living Laboratory\'s services.

14. Undertake any other duties as required by the Ecosystem Manager and Living Laboratory Leadership team.

Knowledge/Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Qualifications

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, with a broad range of professional leadership experience in business development. Or Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles.

Desirable

B1 A science related PhD or an MBA.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

C1 Knowledge and experience of working and collaborating with healthcare/life sciences companies and understanding of their business drivers.

C2 Strong leadership skills combined with an ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and motivated to succeed.

C3 Ability to manage competing priorities, balance stakeholder expectations and resolve conflict.

C4. A solid understanding of and/or experience of product development and commercialisation in the healthcare innovation sector.

C5 Ability to secure sustainable business by thinking creatively and innovatively.

C6. Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.

C7 Ability to track all business development opportunities in real time.

Desirable

D1 Experiential knowledge of the Scottish Life Sciences community, including SMEs, SDI, Scottish Enterprise, SLA and the academic sector, and the key figures within it.

D2 Strong understanding of the digital health landscape, including regulatory requirements and industry trends.

Experience

Essential

E1 Established track record in a commercial healthcare/life sciences environment. E2 Extensive external network able to support the needs and ambitions of the Living Labroatory, DHVL and their partner organisations.

E3 Experience of establishing, developing and maintaining relevant marketing intelligence and knowledge systems and utilising them effectively in business development and customer support.

E4 Experience of business development within the healthcare/life sciences field.

E5 Proven ability to align the needs of customers/external stakeholders with organisational objectives. E6 Experience of attending partnering meetings and hosting company visits.

E7 Demonstrable track record of identifying, negotiating and managing business deals.

Desirable

F1 Experience of alliance management of complex multi partner deals. F2 Proven ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction for internal and external clients.

F3 Experience in digital health innovation

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, \xc2\xa348,350 - \xc2\xa356,021 per annum.

This post is full time, open ended and has funding until 30.9.25 with the possibility of extension until Sep 26.
