MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The
Little Explorers Crew Member
plays a key role in creating a safe, clean, fun, and welcoming environment for children and families visiting Awesome's Little Explorers. This hands-on role includes supporting the soft play area, helping with service in the cafe, and delivering high-energy, engaging children's birthday parties and events.
You'll be part of a friendly team that ensures the centre runs smoothly day-to-day, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety, and delivering an exceptional visitor experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service & Visitor Experience
Provide a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors.
Assist families in the soft play area, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
Deliver fun and interactive children's birthday parties and group events, including games, dancing, and food service.
Engage positively with children and parents to create memorable moments.
Respond to customer queries and feedback with professionalism and care.
Actively promote our services, special events, and cafe offerings to visitors as part of delivering a great experience.
Soft Play Supervision & Safety
Monitor the soft play area, ensuring it is used safely and appropriately.
Carry out regular safety and cleanliness checks of the equipment.
Follow health and safety procedures to safeguard children at all times.
Cafe & Front of House Support
Assist in the cafe with food and drink preparation, service, and clearing tables.
Maintain hygiene and cleanliness in cafe and communal areas.
Operate till systems and handle transactions accurately.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean and sanitise designated areas, including the play zone, toilets, cafe, and party rooms.
Ensure all areas are kept tidy, well-stocked, and presentable at all times.
Teamwork & Operational Support
Support the wider team with opening and closing routines.
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Help with event preparation, displays, and seasonal activities.
Additional Duties
Provide cover for other team members during absences or busy periods.
Represent Awesome's Little Explorers as an ambassador of our brand and values.

REQUIREMENTS
Education/Professional Qualifications
No formal qualifications required - enthusiasm and attitude are most important
Basic English and maths skills for understanding instructions and handling payments
Willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g., Food Hygiene, First Aid)
Any qualifications in childcare, hospitality, or customer service (e.g., NVQs) are a bonus
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Confident working with young children in a fun and fast-paced environment
Understanding of basic health & safety practices in play and food settings
Ability to follow hygiene protocols and cleanliness standards
Customer service skills - friendly, patient, and professional in dealing with families
Ability to use a till or point-of-sale system (training provided if no prior experience)
Good timekeeping and ability to follow a daily schedule of tasks
Comfortable supervising play and resolving small issues calmly and safely
Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities when working around children
Personal attributes are essential

Warm, friendly, and welcoming to all visitors, creating a positive first impression

Desirable
First Aid certification (Paediatric preferred)
Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate
Experience working in a soft play, nursery, school, youth club, or similar setting
Hospitality or cafe experience, especially involving barista experience, food prep or customer service
Confidence in party hosting or children's entertainment (games, storytelling, etc.)
Creative flair for setting up party rooms, decorations, and themed activities
Interest in early years development or play-based learning
Familiarity with basic social media use for promotions or content support
Special requirements of the post
Must be willing to undergo a basic DBS check (employer will support this)
Availability to work shift patterns over seven days, including weekends
Physically active role - requires standing for long periods, lifting light equipment, and cleaning
May involve noise, mess, and energetic environments - must enjoy working in a playful, high-energy setting
Uniform will be provided and expected to be worn during all shifts
Must adhere to the values and policies outlined in the Staff Handbook
