We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join a world-leading technology company at their office in the beautiful city of Cambridge.
The main objective of this position is to offer assistance concerning various commercial & regulatory concerns pertaining to their UK-based research centers located in Cambridge, London, Ipswich, Bristol, & Edinburgh.
Your role will encompass providing hands-on legal guidance to business divisions & management regarding all legal aspects arising from research, development, & manufacturing operations within the UK. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance within the organization, conducting staff training, & handling miscellaneous legal matters on an as-needed basis.
As a Legal Counsel your responsibilities will include:
\xc2\xb7 Offer expert counsel to the organization on a wide spectrum of contractual matters, spanning from hardware/software procurement to research partnerships & business development/marketing arrangements.
\xc2\xb7 Assume responsibility for evaluating & composing general commercial contracts & various other documents, such as NDAs, master service agreements, master procurement agreements, terms & conditions, SOWs, research & development contracts with academic & commercial partners, consulting agreements, technical testing agreements, & general procurement contracts (e.g., real estate/materials/equipment).
\xc2\xb7 Provide support to the company in crucial areas of statutory compliance, including anti-bribery, modern slavery, data protection, & export control.
\xc2\xb7 Conduct tailored training sessions addressing compliance issues & other critical areas for the business, such as anti-bribery, data protection, confidentiality/trade secrets, business conduct, & other compliance activities. Furthermore, deliver legal updates to ensure teams are well-informed about pertinent legislative changes & their implications.
\xc2\xb7 Assist in handling special acquisitions, strategic projects, & specific corporate-related matters.
\xc2\xb7 Collaborate in the formulation & oversight of legal policies & compliance support initiatives across all research centers in the UK.
\xc2\xb7 Collaborate with the European legal team to identify & address issues of regional significance.
\xc2\xb7 Engage in horizon scanning & provide management with advice on new developments or business risks that could potentially impact our operations in the UK.
As a Legal Counsel your skills will include:
\xc2\xb7 UK qualified solicitor
\xc2\xb7 2-4 years\' experience post qualification
\xc2\xb7 Profound understanding of UK commercial law & contracts
\xc2\xb7 Expertise in relevant areas of statutory compliance; e.g., ABC, modern slavery, data protection, etc.
\xc2\xb7 Proficiency in handling intellectual property & data privacy matters
\xc2\xb7 Ability to communicate issues in simple language, avoiding legal jargon
\xc2\xb7 Strong drafting skills are required, including the ability to work with existing templates & craft customized wordings & documents as needed by the business
\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated aptitude for collaborating closely with various stakeholders on a local level.
