We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Legal & Business Affairs Executive with a passion for music law to join our Legal & Business Affairs Team in Liverpool. You will report directly to the Head of Legal & Business Affairs and work closely with all teams within the business. There will be opportunities to grow within the role, which will provide a fantastic grounding for a career as a music industry lawyer.

Responsibilities:

1. Contract Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of music-related contracts and agreements (including publishing agreements, licensing agreements, regulatory policy documentation etc).

2. Legal Compliance: Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting the music industry and ensure compliance with them.

3. Artist Relations: Build and maintain relationships with writers, artists, musicians, record labels, music publishers, and other industry professionals to facilitate smooth collaborations and partnerships.

4. Risk Management: Identify potential legal and business risks and provide strategic advice and solutions to mitigate them effectively.

5. Project Management: Oversee and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely execution, efficient resource allocation, and successful delivery.

6. Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including sync, rights, marketing, finance, and creative departments, to ensure alignment and successful implementation of business strategies

Qualifications

  • Law degree and/or LPC qualification.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with artists, industry professionals, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to assess risks and provide strategic recommendations for business decisions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively with limited supervision.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, embracing new challenges and displaying flexibility in responding to evolving industry trends and business needs.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of legal and contractual frameworks in the music industry, including copyright, licensing, and intellectual property matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and agreements, with strong attention to detail and excellent negotiation skills.
  • Music industry experience is preferred but not essential (knowledge of data privacy issues would be an advantage).
  • Knowledge of music publishing industry either through education or previous work experience is desirable.
  • The preferred candidate should exhibit a natural comfort and familiarity in a tech-driven environment.
