Job Description


The School of Criminology, Sociology and Policing is an ambitious, growing area of the Faculty of Arts, Cultures, and Education and is looking to appoint a new lecturer for our BSc Professional Policing programme to start on 1st August 2023, or shortly thereafter. Accredited by the College of Policing our innovative new provision began its delivery in September 2021. The School has other well-established provision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and a thriving postgraduate research community in the areas of criminology, sociology and policing studies with strong collaborative links with practitioners and across the cognate disciplines of forensic science, law, and psychology. An enthusiastic new colleague will join a team of 24 academic colleagues within the area.

The successful candidate will be someone with experience of policing from a professional perspective and have significant operational expertise, particularly in the processing of crime scenes. They will be able to use their professional experience and education to teach the students about being a police officer, the institutional and career structures around a policing career, processing a crime scene and dealing with victims, amongst other areas of policing practice.

The successful candidate will have a good degree (which is essential), have experience of teaching or professional practice training, and may even have a postgraduate qualification at either masters or doctoral level, although this is not essential.

The successful candidate will teach on the professional policing programme and will be keen to join the team developing the programme further. There is a knowledge exchange element to this new post that includes working with internal and external networks to develop this area at the University of Hull.
