Screenwriting is located within the School of Arts, which is one of the 4 academic schools in the College Education, Culture and Society. The course sits in the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Production together with animation, filmmaking, journalism, theatre, and dance.
Recruitment is strong and students\' study it as a joint honours alongside a range of complimentary programmes such as Animation, Creative Writing, Filmmaking and Theatre, Acting and Performance.
Underpinning all of our work in the school, is an ambition to produce intelligent, creative practitioners who are connected to the debates and practices of their profession, whilst more broadly recognising the importance and potential of the connectivity between multiple art forms. The school embraces professionalism, respect and inclusivity and we are looking for a colleague who shares our vision and values to join us and contribute to our on-going success.
The preferred pedagogical approach is exploring theory through practice and classes and workshops across the school reflect this. We operate from a platform of concept realisation and storytelling and are committed to delivering a forward-thinking, dynamic, creative community dedicated to personal development and professional practice.
Screenwriting is continuously evolving in line with established and current industry practices and the intention is now to develop a postgraduate offer in association with our already established industry connections, which includes the Royal Televisions Society, the Writer\'s Guild, independent Production Houses, and the Writers Guild. We also work closely with practicing Screenwriters and offer the prestigious Stephen Knight Award for the best screenplay.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with aspiration, generosity, and drive to work alongside a committed team of colleagues and play a significant role in shaping this important element of the portfolio. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher dedicated to enabling students to reach their potential, be current with research and practice and will be expected to make significant contributions to the design and delivery of new courses, whilst developing further opportunities for engaging students with the professional world.
