• discover new ways to design stronger, lighter ships;
• apply AI and ML techniques to the future digitilisation of maritime engineering from design; production, through to fleet operation;
• make use of facilities such as our fully equipped 138 m Boldrewood wave/towing tank and new state-of-the-art large structures and materials testing laboratories all on the Boldrewood Innovation campus;
• explore the future of lean crewed and autonomous vessels from subsea robots through to the largest ships;
• look for sustainable solutions to accessing marine renewables and other ocean resources;
• find a decarbonised and emission free future for world shipping;

To make the most of this exciting role, you will need a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in a relevant area of maritime engineering along with a track-record of published research. You will be eligible for a Fellowship of the HEA due to your past involvement in the development and delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level or supported to achieve this at Southampton. You\'ll have a proven ability to develop innovative research proposals and attract research funding. Highly organised, with strong communication skills, you\'ll be ready to manage and motivate others.
