As such you will be contributing to the development of new and progressive curricula which involves new methods of delivery and technologies which support learning and teaching and innovative approaches to law subjects.The Law School is now moving into an exciting new faculty arrangement, where we will be working in a new School of Social sciences - where we are looking forward to engage with colleagues across a range of disciplines including Criminology, Sociology and Policing, as well as the World leading Wilberforce Institute . This has created a space where there will be significant potential for collaborative research and teaching, within our fantastic facilities This will enable access to a range of modern facilities, including moot courts, court, new study and socialisation spaces for undergraduate and postgraduate students and a bespoke space for our Law Clinic and Mediation Service.Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the PostAs part of our continuing approach to developing our curriculum to reflect the Universityxe2x80x99s commitment to a Carbon neutral campus we are looking to enhance our research strand which focuses on International Rights and Global Human Rights which builds on this commitment to leading in developing this area of research Your role is one which focuses on Research within this sector, which will inform our suite of LLB and LLM programmes. You will be expected to demonstrate active involvement in high quality research, in your area, but also a commitment to teaching and learning on our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. We are looking for staff members that can also look to contribute to our foundation / core legal modules provision. You will also be involved in the supervision of LLM dissertations, as well as more broadly throughout the curriculum.To that end, we welcome applications from scholars able to teach in these areas and are looking for individuals who can be versatile in what they teach and be able to evidence use of digital teaching methods and approaches to their module design. The role holder will contribute through a range of teaching styles, from traditional lectures to practical workshops, tutorials and seminars as well as offering individual undergraduate, and postgraduate research project supervision, where appropriate.The research element of the post will require the role holder to engage actively in the research culture of the Law School in accordance with the Law Schoolxe2x80x99s published research strategy. The key elements of this include the publication of high-quality scholarly outputs in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate means of dissemination, applying for and generating research funding, offering supervision to postgraduate research students and undertaking collaborative research with colleagues both within and outside the Law School.All colleagues are expected to develop appropriate methods of delivery for the material that they teach, including appropriate use of technology. All colleagues are also required to provide appropriate support to our students in line with the Law Schoolxe2x80x99s ethos, including the expectation that all teaching staff will have a group of Personal Supervisees, to whom they will provide pastoral care in line with the Universityxe2x80x99s expectations.The role holder will be expected to undertake departmental administrative duties appropriate for their skills and experience and engage in appropriate training to develop their teaching and research skills.PERSON SPECIFICATION CRITERIAEducation and Training

  • A good degree and a PhD in relevant discipline
  • Recognised professional accreditation (where appropriate)
  • A minimum requirement to be at Associate Fellow level as represented within the UK Professional Standards Framework with the expectation of being at Fellow level within 2 years from commencement of the post
Work Experience
  • Reputation nationally and internationally for research, reflected in sustained output, level of innovation, impact on discipline or profession and recognition in high-impact factor journals
  • Research experience in the Departmentxe2x80x99s main research themes
  • Excellence in teaching from peer review, from student assessment/feedback, and /or from examination results
  • A track record of attracting research funds
  • A significant number of presentations at national and/or international conferences.
  • Membership of Departmental Teaching Committee or equivalent
Skills and Knowledge
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate in (Department or discipline)
  • An ability to develop new courses and actively contribute assessment examinations
  • An ability to communicate complex conceptual ideas to widely divergent audiences.
  • Effective management of resources e.g. financial, equipment etc
  • Effective management of research project resources
  • Ability to motivate research teams to deliver high quality outputs
  • Accreditation of courses by professional bodies
  • Acting as a visiting examiner at other Institutions
  • Involvement with external quality audit or assessment
  • Service as an advisor on teaching and learning in the local community
Personal Qualities
  • A positive contribution to University activities and initiatives including open days, graduation ceremonies etc. and willingness to undertake administrative activities
