Job description

The Department of History seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Education) in Early Modern History, tenable for 12 months full-time from 1 September 2023. The post will meet temporary teaching needs arising from a staff absence.

The post-holder will specialize in any part of the period 1500-1800. Your responsibilities will include teaching the module 4AAH0003 Early Modern Worlds. In addition, you will teach on the module 4AAH0001 Historical Skills, Sources and Approaches as well as making contributions to the MA in Early Modern History. You will also be expected to contribute to the administration and pastoral provision of the Department of History.

Applications are welcome from candidates with expertise in Early Modern History and the ability to teach the modules outlined above. Candidates should have completed a PhD by the date of appointment.

This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract from 1st September 2023.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. PhD in Early Modern History completed

2. Excellent scholarship in Early Modern History

3. Demonstrable ability to convene, teach and assess modules relating to Early Modern History across the undergraduate curriculum

4. Demonstrable ability to engage students and support their learning

5. Demonstrable administrative and interpersonal skills, a collaborative ethos, and capacity for team-working

6. Strong track record in scholarship relative to career stage

7. Experience of teaching and supporting students at UG level

8. Ability to teach the modules listed in the role profile

Desirable criteria

1. Experience of teaching and supporting students at PG level
