Are you a critical researcher in criminology and psychology? Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for someone to lead our new Criminology and Psychology degree.



We are seeking a Lecturer in Criminology on a 21 month, fixed-term contract, to join our interdisciplinary and critical School of Social Sciences. You will be part of a vibrant criminological team with a focus on racial and social justice.



As part of our Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty, you will have the opportunity to engage in both teaching and research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in your field. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual future of our diverse student cohort, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses and you'll also contribute to our exciting research culture and environment.



As Lecturer in Criminology, you will lead on the development, management and teaching of our new joint BA in Criminology and Psychology, working with colleagues from Criminology and Psychological Sciences to develop this exciting interdisciplinary programme. You will teach on existing modules as well as engage in curriculum development.



As a Lecturer, you will:


Teach and inspire students across various settings, from small tutorials to large lectures Develop and deliver engaging teaching materials and methods Supervise student projects and provide academic guidance Engage in research activities and contribute to the school's research objectives Participate in outreach and engagement activities to enhance public understanding of your discipline.


The ideal Lecturer will have experience working in an interdisciplinary way across criminology and psychology, making use of critical perspectives and research frameworks. A research interest in, and ability to teach, one of the following would also be an advantage: Green Criminology, Digital Criminology or Criminology and AI.



In addition, we are looking for someone with:


A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field Strong research skills and the ability to attract funding Experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level Experience in curriculum design, programme development or programme management A commitment to diversity and the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.

Salary and benefits





43,636 rising to 60,018 per annum, Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
