Description of College / Department
Within the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (CHMLS), the Department of Life Sciences and the Division of Biosciences focus on world-leading scientific research, which underpins our high-quality research-led teaching.
As part of a commitment to strategic growth of the Division of Biosciences, we wish to appoint an academic working in the field of cellular biology.
The successful candidate will combine world-class research programme with student-centred and research-led teaching in molecular and cellular biology, which will complement and enhance the BSc programmes in Biomedical Sciences and Life Sciences, as well as the MSc programmes in Mechanisms and Therapy in Infection and inflammation, and Mechanisms and Therapy in Cancer.
You should have a proven track record of high-quality research, with clear plans for your future research, and experience of research proposal development. We particularly welcome candidates with a research interest on cellular and molecular biology processes aimed at understanding tissue organisation in homeostasis, ageing processes and/or disease (including cancer). Relevant research areas can include one or more of the following: fundamentals of cell and molecular organisation, structure and function, cell mechanics and mechano-transduction, sub-cellular organisation, second messenger signalling and/or gene expression.
Individuals with a doctoral degree in a relevant field are encouraged to apply. We also welcome applications from ambitious early career scientists seeking to transition to an independent position.
We work hard to provide a supportive and positive environment and the Department of Life Sciences proudly holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award. We are also a Disability Confident employer. The diversity of our staff adds greatly to this inclusive ethos.
Brunel has a strong track-record of securing research funding from EU and other international sources. Regardless of the long-term future for UK participation in Horizon Europe, Brunel will continue to ensure that staff have access to non-EU research funding, and we will continue to support our many bilateral collaborations within the EU and will remain an active member of YERUN.
We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.
Closing Date for applications: 15 September 2023
