Learning Support Assistant - Woking

Opportunity to join a small, independent school in Surrey. The school is co-educational and offers teaching to pupils with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, SpLD, Social Communication difficulties and other similar learning disabilities.

As a small school with up to 67 pupils, they specialise in creating a friendly, nurturing environment where each child can grow and progress, not only educationally, but also socially and emotionally.

Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy is provided on site and integrated into the lessons as well as on a 1:1 basis.

Teaching is multi-sensory in style and Dyslexia-friendly, and there is an emphasis on the visual arts.

As a Learning Support / Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher and therapy teams to ensure each child progresses towards their goals.

The job:

  • Providing assistance and supervision for students before, during and after lessons
  • Assisting students to understand and participate in set tasks in an appropriate way
  • Assisting with note taking and supporting literacy and numeracy
  • Working with individual learners
  • Encouraging the development of appropriate social skills
  • To ensure accurate individual student records are maintained
  • Helping to build confidence and motivation
  • Participating in team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team
  • Working with managers and employees to support the developing culture of the organisation
  • Where required, supporting individual needs including assisting with a wide range of medical and occasionally personal care tasks as necessary and providing physical support where needed (training will be provided in giving medical care and support)
What is required:
  • An Undergraduate Degree (preferable) or experience working with children and/or the youth
  • Good general education levels in English and Maths
  • Knowledge, keen interest or understanding of a range of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Ability to adapt to a various working environments and students with differing abilities
  • A co-operative working style
  • Self-motivation
Hours and pay:
  • Monday to Friday (term time = 39 weeks per annum)
  • 08h30 to 15h30 / 16h00
  • \xc2\xa370 to \xc2\xa380 daily rate / \xc2\xa31,350 to \xc2\xa31,560 per month
