Vets for Pets Newtownards exists to help people proactively look after their pets so that they can live well to the very end. We work hard every day to help advise our clients about what is in the best interest of their pets so they can make informed choices and give them the best chance of living a life free from pain and disease.
We have a close-knit team of 9 colleagues who share some important values. Most importantly, we feel veterinary medicine should be rewarding. We have no interest in breaking our team members emotionally or our clients financially but are here to have a good time doing one of the best jobs there is.
We are acutely aware that this job is stressful enough without double-booked appointments and being asked to do too much. We run 15-minute appointment blocks but sick animals or clients needing more time routinely get 30 minutes. We reserve a number of on the day appointments to make sure there is room to fit in the emergencies and have a points-based system for booking operations which works well for making sure you are never overbooked.
Our weekends are even more tightly organised with only an hour of pre-booked appointments available 9-10 am with the last on-the-day slot at 11 am to make sure you can get away at 12 ON TIME!
About you:
To us, cultural fit is just as important as skills and experience. To that note, we aren't a clinic that works well with big egos, but have spent time building a group that feels comfortable speaking up when something isn't right.
This role would suit you best if you are an experienced vet who would like to take on some leadership duties and help to improve how we look after our patients. You will be a confident surgeon capable of taking on all the routine things you see in practice and happy to open a textbook for the clients that can't afford to be referred.
As a vet, you'll have developed a love of helping people to proactively look after their pets. You will be capable of advising owners on what is best for their animals, even if that initial conversation can be a little uncomfortable. It is equally important that you have become comfortable discussing costs and going through estimates with owners because we have wonderful clients who want to do the best for their pets, provided they know what the cost is first.
What makes this Job different?
The main focus in our clinic is staff wellbeing and we have built a role with this in mind.
This rota would involve a 3.5 day working week meaning you are free to get up to all the stuff you like to do outside of vetting. Tuesdays would be a protected day off and you would only be asked to work these 4-5 times a year when our other vets take holiday. The
Saturday rota is on a 1-in-3 basis and there are no out-of-hours.
There are loads more details to go through and some aspects of the role that can be flexible to your life. We will be more than happy to go through these when we meet.
Along with joining a very supportive team in a brilliant practice you will also receive the following benefits:
Competitive salary up to 65,000 (DOE, FTE)
A 3.5 day working week with Tuesdays off.
1-in-3 Saturday rota to noon with the last on-the-day appointment at 11 am
CPD allowance up to and including certificates (training agreement required)
No OOH or Sunday working
Private health insurance (opt-in required)
Paid memberships
Exclusive company discounts and rewards

Pets just see people. They aren't biased and they don't discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don't perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
