LEAD PROJECT ENGINEER - ENVIRONMENT

What you will be doing:



An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Project Engineer to join the team at Galliford Try within our Environment Business.


Ideally, you will based in or around the Normanton area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.


The Lead Project Engineer is an important part of the Galliford Try Project Delivery Team, whose role is to support Projects by leading on all design-related activities, working closely with the Pre-Construction team. You will work primarily on the Yorkshire Water AMP8 Framework.


You will work with the Senior Design Manager, Pre-Construction Manager and the Project Team to agree a design delivery strategy for each project; and will then effectively coordinate all design work (whether sourced in-house, or externally), through preconstruction and construction, and ensure that the design deliverables are provided in line with the requirements for each project, aligned with the agreed investment stage and programme, meeting the agreed budget to a sufficient standard, quality, and level of detail required. You will also have a close-working relationship with the project delivery teams; alongside the In-House and external Engineering teams (including subconsultants and those providing supply chain design). You will also be client-facing, ensuring completed designs align with the Client's requirements allowing design deliverables to successfully move through the client's design approval process in line with the programme requirements.


The Lead Project Engineer will be directly responsible for the output and the success of design at a programme level and will be involved in reporting on the design element of the project schedule and budgets; ensuring technical excellence, risk management and a commitment and adherence to the highest design standards in relation to safety, health, environmental and quality (SHEQ).


You will:


Develop strong working relationships with internal teams and external customers, along with subconsultants (the 5Cs). Apply CDM (2015) and principle of prevention and safety in design as Principal Designer. Carry out PCI gap analysis at the pre con stage, ensuring we have sufficient information and ensure all parties have access to the information during the project lifecycle. Establish a platform for good communication and collaboration between relevant parties and thereby an effective flow of design and production information. Ensure that the design is properly coordinated and communicated, including input from specialist consultants, supply chain & manufacturers Ensure that the design process needs are planned and controlled. Ensure that the design considers cost/budget, Quality & buildability, Health & Safety and compliance with the Brief/ERs, regulations & standards, including Environmental and Sustainability requirements De-risk design problems by finding solutions before they materialise and opportunities. Contribute to planning and co-ordination in a way that adds value to the processes. Prepare, manage and secure all-party ownership of an integrated design programme, including information release. Dealing with enquiries from designers/supply chain/sub-contractors. Implement best practice including BIM/Digital, DfMA & Standardisation, Carbon Reduction and Supply Chain Engagement. Support the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors during the tender and delivery processes. Working in conjunction with the preconstruction and delivery teams to promote integrated project delivery. Assist the Project Team by: + Producing design scope (ESE) and assist with commercial, contractual engagement and risk.
+ Producing the Design Management Plan (DMP), Principal Designer Tool Kit and the implementation of the BIM execution plan which will be updated and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Contribute to proposing options for design solutions.
+ Conducting value engineering.
+ Supporting buildability reviews.
+ Assessing and developing the subcontract and supply chain design.
Assist the Project Manager to + report on design performance in the projects.
+ review design resource forecasting.
+ manage and report design change control.

About You:



Competency Requirements:



Understanding of the technical aspects of design and construction matters, systems and processes. An understanding of planning applications, building regulations, codes of practice, sustainability & Whole Life carbon assessment practices, environmental and health and safety regulations. Planning and programming skills. Legal, commercial and contractual knowledge. Negotiating and people skills. Presentation skills. Good knowledge of CDM (2015). Knowledge of the specific Business Unit sectors. Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures. Ability to work to deadlines. Good time management with ability to multitask.

Technical/Professional Qualifications Required



Degree in Engineering, Design, Architecture or Construction Management Experience within Construction Management and/or Architecture/Civil Engineering (highways, rail, water or aviation). Membership of relevant Professional Body is desirable. Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages. Working 2D & 3D CAD would be beneficial. Working knowledge of BIM and Common Data Environments preferred CDM for Principal Designers desirable.
