The Position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Cloud Engineer, preferably with expertise in creating and operating data platforms or applications, to join our Data AI Tech Ops team at Novo Nordisk. As a Lead Cloud Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing cloud-based platforms and analytics solutions, enabling data scientists, analysts and more across Novo Nordisk to bring their data to life.

In this role you will:

  • Architect and implement a re-usable, on-demand, scalable, reliable, and secure Python backend on AWS.
  • Develop, optimize, and fine-tune cloud infrastructure using best practices, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, addressing any issues or performance bottlenecks.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in cloud technologies and data analytics tools, recommending and implementing relevant improvements and innovations.
  • Collaborate together with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide technical guidance and support.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Document technical designs, processes, and procedures to ensure effective knowledge transfer and maintain a repository of best practices.
You will work and collaborate in cross-functional teams with IT, machine learning engineers, and data scientists in application areas ranging from real-world data and omics to computer vision and natural language processing.

The workplace is London but flexible or remote work arrangements can be discussed.

Qualifications

You have either a MSc degree or a PhD degree with a few years of relevant experience. Degrees within computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline are preferred.

Relevant experience includes:
  • Substantial time invested working as a Cloud Engineer, with a focus on cloud-based data analytics solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), Azure, or Google Cloud, with hands-on experience in deploying and managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
  • Deep understanding of cloud security best practices and the ability to implement security measures for data protection and compliance.
  • Familiarity with DevOps best practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred), Go.
  • Experience with Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) or Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with the following AWS services is a plus: Lake Formation, S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda, CodePipeline, Fargate, SNS/SQS, IAM, Quicksight, RDS.
  • It is a bonus if you have experience working with data analytics tools such as Databricks, Grafana, Rstudio, and authentication standards such as SAML.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
