Role Overview

Paralegals who work in the LDC gain experience across our multiple disciplines (including Litigation, Corporate and Finance) on high value city grade work originating from both the UK and overseas. They work on a variety of instructions across our practice groups, with instructions varying from contract analysis and reporting, play-booked negotiations, drafting and cross-referencing documents, local counsel co-ordination, document review, company secretarial work, triaging and escalation of legal queries (inbox support).

In addition, our LDC paralegals have a deep working knowledge of legal technology, such as AI contract review tool Kira, decision making automation tool BRYTER and deal tool Legatics. This enables the LDC, and our firm, to further deliver our work in a cost effective and efficient manner for our clients. All of our LDC paralegals receive dedicated training and development support helping us to grow the breath of the work the LDC undertakes and ensuring the high Hogan Lovells\xe2\x80\x99 quality standard is maintained.

Representative work types:

Supporting our Banking Team in London who is advising a US -based fintech business that provides working capital management, electronic invoicing, supply chain finance, and dynamic discounting services to large, usually multinational, organisations. Working directly with our London associates, the LDC paralegal team drafted over 1000 multi-jurisdictional transactional documents, including contracts, agreements, reliance letters, assignment agreements.

Templates were created to increase both time and cost efficiencies. This face paced instruction required the paralegals to take ownership of their work, ensure accuracy and quality at every stage to deliver on time and to budget.

Privacy Team Client Secondment: Monitoring emails received to our client\xe2\x80\x99s privacy inbox and ensuring global compliance with privacy laws by actioning Individual Rights Requests, and advising internal stakeholders on the privacy implications of new initiatives and rectifying data breaches in the UK, Europe and US.

Working with our London Acquisition Finance team who advise our clients on leveraged finance deals. Our paralegals complete vital corporate due diligence by carrying our company searches, obtaining and analysis of Confirmation Statements, completing the company search report and highlighting key issues to our London associates. Thereafter, our paralegals review, negotiation and complete CPS with the borrower\xe2\x80\x99s Counsel.

Assisting the Real Estate Disputes team with work relating to Company Voluntary Arrangements. The process includes drafting and submitting voting forms on behalf of the client, communicating with the client and the Nominees with regard to any queries and creating a summary sheet providing accurate and detailed advice for each CVA for the client.

Our paralegals work closely with our Global Reg & IPMT team in London on large scale remediation projects. Most recently, they have been working on LIBOR and EBA Outsourcing projects, carrying our due diligence reviews of contracts, preparing amendment agreements and negotiating those agreements with counter-parties. They also facilitate the execution of the documents.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Assist with document review and due diligence;
  • Assist with project work for the firm;
  • Draft, check and amend legal documents;
  • Liaise with internal and external counsel, within the UK and globally;
  • Write concise memoranda to summarize research results;
  • Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases;
  • Conduct legal research;
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Person Specification

The Candidate
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Displays a working knowledge and understanding of relevant legal principles;
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and the ability to locate specific items on the internet;
  • Has an enthusiasm and willingness to work as part of a team and demonstrates flexibility with assigned tasks;
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects; and
  • Flexibility for additional hours as needed.
Qualifications and Training
  • 6 months plus of paralegal fee earning experience in a law firm or equivalent;
  • Law degree or equivalent qualification is essential; and
  • LPC qualified is preferred but candidates with extensive paralegal experience will also be considered.
