Please Note: This opportunity is only open to unemployed residents of Argyll & Bute.



Department: Technical Support Hours of work: 16 hours per week (Monday to Friday, we can be flexible on work pattern) Rate of pay: 12.60 per hour Work location: SAMS site, Dunbeg, near Oban Duration: 26 weeks Closing date: Friday 25th April 2025

Purpose



You will work in a science laboratory, learn how to prepare and conduct experiments, and use scientific equipment to set up and support experiments and projects. You will also learn how to record, store and maintain scientific data and comply with health & safety procedures.

This placement will provide an opportunity to work in a scientific laboratory environment and learn about scientific research, to upskill, refresh skills, or provide a work experience opportunity to decide If you would like a career connected to science.

Tasks will include:

Sample preparation, basic testing and experiments

Assist with molecular biology tasks to support our culture collection Learn and follow methodologies and protocols in carrying out routine tasks Assist with procedures for the long-term storage of cultures
Equipment Management

Setting up, using and maintaining lab equipment Washing laboratory glassware and consumables Assist with ensuring cleanliness and organisation of the lab
Data Management

Recording data accurately Assist with digitising of historical records
There may be other tasks as part of the placement that you would be interested in learning about within our scientific research and commercial projects.
