Our client specialises in the testing of soil, water and leachate samples from brownfield sites. They also provide on-site environmental monitoring services and environmental monitoring equipment hire. They are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Analyst to join their dedicated team in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in a similar position, hold an A Level or equivalent in Scientific subject and hold GCSEs in Science, Maths and English at Grade C or above. You will possess excellent communication skills, be IT literate and have a strong attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records.

As a Laboratory Analyst you will work closely with the team of Technicians and report to the Laboratory Team Leaders, undertaking the responsibility for sample preparation and everyday laboratory tasks.

The ideal candidate will hold the following skills and experiences:

• Demonstrable experience in a similar position
• Hold GCSEs in Science, Maths and English at Grade C (equivalent to new Grade 4)
• Have an A Level or equivalent in Scientific subject
• Possess excellent communication skills
• Be IT literate
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• Have a strong attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records

Your duties as a Laboratory Analyst will include:

• Ensuring that all the operations, procedures, policies and equipment within the job holders area of responsibility are maintained to the highest standards and conform to all UKAS requirements where required
• Monitoring the allocated work and interpret data generated and to alert management to any actual, or anticipated deviations from key objectives or timelines
• Completing allocated analytical work on time and to the required standards, working efficiently and effectively to minimise waste and time used, therefore maximising the efficiency and profitability of the laboratory
• Ensuring that work is fully, accurately and promptly recorded and reported, for example on data sheets in the computer database and other documents to support the work programme
• Communicating problems, results or progress to the management as required
• Checking and validating where necessary all analytical work undertaken to ensure only the highest quality analytical data is presented for reporting
• Making verbal reports to Section Management and other senior staff on a regular basis and as necessary, to continue efficient working
• Observing stock control of chemicals and consumables and to order or alert supervisor of inadequate stocks
• Understanding and following company policies and to ensure good standards are maintained for UKAS, safety and environmental standards (e.g. accident reporting, waste disposal)
• Alert section management of any deviations or deficiencies with work, equipment, safety or compliance
• Maintaining a safe, clean and secure working environment by establishing and enforcing procedures, rules and regulations
• Ensuring compliance with Quality System and any procedures by initiating and monitoring all relevant data
• Maintaining a strong customer focus, ensuring all customer requests are logged accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) system to ensure a first-class fast service
• Provide support in any reasonable duties as requested by line manager
