Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Operations in the IT Operations and Services team.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join as the IT Operations Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and assisting in the operation and continuous improvement of our IT infrastructure. You will lead a team of engineers, manage resources, and implement best practices to maintain the stability, security, and scalability of our technology infrastructure. This is a management role with a significant hands-on technical element in both design and implementation. You'll need a strong, broad technical background to bring rigour to the approach to problems.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide management and technical oversight of design, estimation and implementation of additions and improvements to our infrastructure, aligned to the cloud-first ONT IT strategy and industry best practice.
Lead all aspects of and assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of applications, cloud infrastructure, virtual infrastructure, servers, storage systems, network devices and related hardware.
Be responsible for and assist in maintenance of ONT's IT infrastructure, ensuring efficient performance, availability and security.
Lead a team of IT professionals, encouraging a culture of collaboration, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Provide direction, prioritisation and high-level management of the team workstack.
Set goals and supervise performance to ensure the team meets operational objectives.
Monitor system performance to proactively determine and resolve issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
Implement performance tuning and capacity planning to support business growth.
Collaborate with key vendors and third-party service providers to procure and manage hardware, software, and services.
Accelerate migration of workloads from on-prem to cloud.
Working closely with the architecture and programme management teams on the scoping and prioritisation of new projects.
Running operational processes such as Major Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Capacity Planning and Supplier Management
Qualifications/ Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft, ITIL, AWS, Cisco) a plus.
Experience
Proven experience (10+ years) in IT infrastructure and operations.
Broad experience of server hardware, operating systems (Linux and Windows), virtualisation technologies, networking (both physical and virtual).
Experience in automated deployment and management of cloud, virtual and physical infrastructure
Experience with multiple monitoring and alerting tools, including operational processes responding to alerts.
Experience in implementing and maintaining security best practices.
Experience operating in and coordinating an agile project delivery process.
Windows and Linux administration experience
Experience of scripting in Bash, Powershell, Python or other languages
Experience in design and management of datacentres
Experience with debugging issues using Wireshark and log analysis tools
Experience working in and managing an ISO 27001/20000 compliant environment, or environment with similar compliance requirements
Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
Working knowledge of cloud computing platforms and services including AWS.
Strong leadership and team management experience or potential
