Salary:

The starting salary is 68,295, which includes allowances totalling 2,928.


The salary is broken down as 65,367 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 70,012. Plus, a location allowance of 1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000.

The primary Met Location for this role is Bow. Travel across the Met estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT)




The mission of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is to provide the Met with information (and specifically data), communications and technology to help frontline officers and Met staff do their jobs more efficiently, in order to deliver the New Met for London plan. In other words, DDaT is about "passionately delivering trusted technology for precise data driven policing".


As well as keeping up to speed with developments in technology and making recommendations for new equipment and systems that will help modernise policing, DDaT also comprises the Data Office which:

Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda. Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas. Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services. Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Job Purpose




This role supports the vision and strategy for Infrastructure Architecture for the Met such that police officers and staff have the infrastructures providing the business services to deliver their roles in a digitally enabled police force.


Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Infrastructure Architecture, the Infrastructure Architect will take ownership of the definition and evolution of a portfolio within the infrastructure domain to deliver the Met's Technology Strategy 2025-30. Portfolio will be determined according to the skills of the person and the needs of the Met.

Key Role Responsibilities



Maintain the infrastructure strategy and governance that delivers the DDaT Technology Strategy and reflects the changing technology landscape. This strategy will be part of an integrated strategy across all technology domains. Manage the delivery of solution design for Infrastructure projects and ensure architectural compliance. Oversee the Architecture Managed Service in the delivery if artefacts and solution architectures. Advise Business Engagement Managers on new business requirements and their infrastructure requirements to deliver the business programme. Design and maintenance of roadmaps within their portfolio.

Vetting Clearance Level




This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

Essential For The Role

Essential Criteria:




Core Knowledge

Infrastructure Architecture: Deep understanding across the infrastructure stack -- from end-user devices, through networks, to data centres and public cloud (IaaS). Public Cloud: Knowledge of at least one major public cloud provider (Azure, AWS, GCP) and how to design infrastructure services within it. Enterprise Environments: Experience designing infrastructure that supports enterprise-scale services and applications. Architecture Frameworks: Previous experience delivering principles, standards, and strategies within an Enterprise Architecture framework (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman). Infrastructure Strategy & Governance: Ability to develop and maintain technology strategies, roadmaps, standards, and architectural governance.

Skills & Capabilities

Stakeholder Engagement: Working closely with Business Engagement Managers, Technology teams, and outsource partners. Translating business needs into infrastructure requirements. Partner & Vendor Management: Shaping and working with external partners, vendors, and MSPs to deliver infrastructure solutions. Participation in procurement processes. Risk Management: Identifying and managing technology risks within infrastructure projects. Roadmap Development: Creating and maintaining technology roadmaps within assigned infrastructure portfolios. Architecture Governance: Enforcing conformance to strategic infrastructure standards and patterns across projects.

Desirable Criteria:



Security Standards: Awareness of infrastructure security design, data protection, and government security classifications. Cloud-Native Patterns: Understanding modern patterns like Infrastructure-as-Code, DevOps in infrastructure, and cloud networking.
