Job description


This role assists in the running of DVSA\'s corporate and Cloud infrastructure, helping to provide a high-quality service and delivering value for money through the use of in-house resources and specialist and commodity suppliers. The work takes place across four main areas - EUC (End User Compute), Platform Services, Network Support and Operational support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
  • Assist the engineers on change projects and continuous improvement to replace or enhance the current service provision.
  • Assist the engineers in the monitoring of the operation of DVSA\xe2\x80\x99s infrastructure, helping to ensure that systems provided meet requirements, suppliers are meeting SLAs, and faults are tracked.
  • Build solid relationships with internal teams to make sure a quality service that delivers to OLA\xe2\x80\x99s and SLA\xe2\x80\x99s with the business and has robust and repeatable release processes.
  • Building strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure seamless delivery across internal and outsourced resources.

To thrive in this role, you will have knowledge of Networks, Cloud Technologies and Desktop Operating systems. You have excellent communication skills in varying circumstances, with the ability to tailor this to your audience. You are enthusiastic towards learning and development, specifically infrastructure related IT skills. We are seeking an individual who can pick up new skills with ease, being able to organise your time effectively and balance your work and studies. Please take note that DVSA does not hold a UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker License sponsor and are unable to sponsor any individuals for Skilled Worker Sponsorship. Eligibility To be eligible for this higher apprenticeship, you must:
  • Must hold one of the following:
    • A Levels, or equivalent educational attainment, including the Level 2 IT Diploma, Welsh or International Baccalaureate or other relevant Level 3 or 4 qualifications.
    • An Apprenticeship (Level 3).
    • Employment within the technology/telecommunications industry for a number of years and can demonstrate that they have a reasonable expectation of achieving the required outcomes of the Higher Apprenticeship.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Not be in full-time education.
  • Not be in receipt of funding for other learning programmes at the point of enrolment for this higher apprenticeship.
  • Have valid and eligible residency status and be resident in the UK for 3 years before the start of the higher apprenticeship.
If you currently hold or are working towards a similar qualification of the same level or higher, then you will not be eligible to apply for this vacancy. In order to be eligible for our higher apprenticeship vacancy, any qualifications previously held or currently being worked towards must differ in content so that this higher apprenticeship provides substantial new skills. If these or an equivalent are not already held then they will form a key part of your apprenticeship. Additional Information You will be fully supported to complete the higher apprenticeship. On completion we will seek to continue your development with the potential of becoming Senior Infrastructure Engineer. Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week. This role is based in Swansea, where presence at this site will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and office locations, giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Please note that there will be occasional travel required with this role to other DVSA locations, including overnight stays.
