An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Thames Valley.

Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan Force in England and Wales, covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire and serving a population of in excess of 2 million. The Force is continuing to evolve and invest as we shape ourselves for the future.

ICVS Manager

This is a statutory scheme which involves the management of around 60 volunteer Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) across the Thames Valley, whose task it is to make unannounced visits to custody suites to check on the welfare of detainees and to report back to the OPCC. This role involves recruitment and training of ICVs, monitoring and recording of issues, producing regular reports for senior management and liaising with relevant stakeholders. You will be required to set up and run meetings with volunteers up to a year in advance. Please note, some occasional evening and weekend work will be required in this capacity.

Governance Officer

You will be the initial point of contact for correspondence received by the OPCC from members of the public. You will respond on behalf of the PCC, conducting independent research into specific issues brought to the attention of the OPCC by members of the public and elected officials as required. You must have a comprehensive understanding of the role and remit of the PCC. Whilst the role of the PCC is apolitical, you will need to be able to navigate your way around a political landscape whilst ensuring that the PCC responses are compliant with the relevant legislation. In addition, you will be providing resilience and support to the Governance Team and the rest of the OPCC, as necessary and appropriate and will be supporting the PCC to reach their strategic priorities. You will provide general administrative support to the OPCC including answering the telephone and collecting the post as and when required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good standard of education, preferably to degree standard or as a minimum to \'A Level\' or equivalent and/or proven capability and experience of operating in a similar role and at a similar level of responsibility.
  • The ability to organise and plan events/meetings as far as 12 months in advance.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to write clearly and prepare complex reports. This includes collating data in relation to the ICVS and ensuring that it is articulated in the form of a report.
  • Ability to implement and understand the relevant legislation and statutory guidance in terms of the national police complaints system and the ICVS and to maintain a good standard of knowledge.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to promote professional working relationships with personnel at all levels.
In return, you\'ll be joining an organisation that truly values its people, reflected in our range of excellent benefits, positive culture and flexible working opportunities.

If you are a permanent member of staff applying for this role, please note it will be offered on a secondment basis. Important: All secondments are assumed supported and that your line manager and Head of Department/Commander or Deputy are aware of your intention to apply. If the secondment is not supported then a strong business rationale must be sent to quoting the reference number for the role.

Please note: Shift allowance, on-call or other job related allowances from the previous role will not be protected unless they are attached to the new role for the duration of the secondment.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 24 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
