We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway. See the diagram for a breakdown of our services. To learn more, please click to watch our video.This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving - making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule. Watch our videoAbout the role (External)No one day is the same in SCO, due to the diversity of the services that we provide. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an HSE Assistant. You will be at the centre of our safety improvement initiatives. From driving improvements to our compliance management and monitoring systems to devising innovative ways to communicate our HSE performance and messages. You'll also help us keep our document control and compliance management and monitoring systems up to date.In this role, you'll provide advice, guidance and analysis for the delivery and continuous improvement of our health, safety and environmental management processes and systems, providing support and assurance to reduce and manage health, safety and environment risks.The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of MS products, especially SharePoint and Excel. It would also be desirable to have an awareness of Document Control procedures and an Internal Audit qualification, but this isn't essential.Key accountabilities include:

  • To assist in the evolution, ongoing embedding and compliance of the SCO HSE operating model processes and Standards.
  • Contribute and advise on the development of data collection methodologies and assurance mechanisms.
  • Assist in benchmarking SCO HSE system performance, reliability, productivity, and efficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Undertake data assurance activities; verify data requirements, undertake analysis, review and interpret analysis and make recommendations to support SCO HSE operating processes.
  • Assist in the preparations, facilitation, data analysis and ongoing management of the SCO HSE operating model. Manage and maintain assurance and risk management processes.
  • Responsible for SCO HSE Communications and information presenting a standard look and feel, configuration management applied, ownership, version history and are auditable.

  • Relevant experience of supporting HSE management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good report writing and presentation preparation skills.
  • Excellent data handling skills.
  • Good risk assessment skills / knowledge.
  • Internal Audit trained and qualified.
  • Good IT skills.
Desirable
  • Awareness of British HSE legal requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience of the railway operating environment.
  • Completed the IOSH Managing Safely course/or equivalent.
