Role Overview





David MacBrayne HR (UK) Limited provides HR, payroll, and crewing services to all David MacBrayne Ltd Group companies, which employ a total of c. 2000 staff.



This is a generalist role for someone seeking a career in HR. As HR Advisor, you will support the business and HRBP team with a wide range of employee relation issues ranging from performance management through to discipline.



This position requires a blend of HR knowledge, agility in role, complex problem-solving skills and a good understanding of employment law and company policies.


Principal Accountabilities




General




Creating, implementing, and administering employee policies Updating and maintaining the managers toolkit Acting as an initial point of contact for managers and other employees on case management Preparation of relevant statistics or reports as required Providing advice to management on employee relations and management issues Take personal ownership for resolving issues or escalating where appropriate Attendance at formal meetings such as disciplinary, grievance, absence meetings as HR advisor or note taker Promote equality and diversity as part of the culture of the organisation Reviewing and updating job descriptions Raising Purchase Orders for the department Raising Occupational Health, EAP and physio referrals Monitor and maintain trackers Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, systems and projects Contribute to ongoing effective working relations with all recognised trade unions Carry out any other reasonable request within the remit of the role



Employee Relations




To provide consultancy and advice on HR related matters in accordance with the requirements of company policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to all legal and best practice obligations. Manage employee relations and develop a climate that is commercially sound and conducive to positive relationships. Collaborate constructively and proactively with recognised trade unions to support effective employee relations.

Performance Management



Analyse and present people related KPI's to management teams. Oversee and advise management teams on absence management processes in conjunction with managers take action to ensure absence levels remain within company standards Ensure best practice in relation to the recruitment, induction, appraisal and development of staff, increasing employee motivation and the retention of appropriately skilled staff committed to the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Appraisal



Provide support, advice, and coaching to operational management in any aspect of the appraisal process Monitor the completion of appraisals and regularly provide the HR team with information on the current status of appraisal completion on staff.

Employee Engagement



Support implementation of employee engagement initiatives. Ensure clear HR information and policies are accessible to all stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience



Human Resources Degree qualified or working towards completion before June 2025 Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written Can demonstrate strong organisational skills and is able to multi-task and work under pressure Demonstrates high levels of emotional intelligence and an ability to influence and persuade Demonstrates excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities Computer literate, familiarity with Microsoft Office applications Numerate, able to manipulate, analyse and present data to provide meaningful management information Able to remain calm under pressure, with good problem-solving skills * Able to work collaboratively as part of a team and proactive in helping colleagues
