Homelessness Prevention Officers
Job description Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Fixed Term for 18 Months Play a key role in making a difference to some of the most vulnerable people in the city. Our work is extremely challenging, but also extremely rewarding, changing lives for the better by tackling homelessness, building new homes, and strengthening communities. Engaging with people at a local level, we support them by delivering services that improve their lives. Working on the front line, you\xe2\x80\x99ll liaise with customers either face-to-face, over the telephone or conduct home visits. You\'ll have to regularly navigate sensitive situations. You\xe2\x80\x99ll have a large and complex allocated caseload, where you\xe2\x80\x99ll undertake assessments on customers\xe2\x80\x99 support needs, especially regarding housing, employment, and financial needs. With the primary aim to prevent homelessness, you\'ll assist clients to either retain their present accommodation or find suitable alternative housing. You\xe2\x80\x99ll provide support to those who may be struggling with substance misuse, break down in relationships, job loss, mental or physical health problems, facing domestic abuse, those being evicted, those who can no longer afford to pay their rent, and much more. Putting the customer needs at the heart of everything you do, you\'ll be proactive, compassionate, and professional, to offer the best housing solutions with understanding and care. You\xe2\x80\x99ll need to be resilient, with a high level of maturity and the ability to manage in a very busy environment. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be able to deal with potentially stressful situations in a calm manner. With excellent interpersonal and listening skills, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be able to empathise with clients, and build a strong and trusting relationship. Ideally, you\xe2\x80\x99ll have worked with homeless people or worked in a similar field, undertaking assessments with people facing difficult and complex situations, and providing support in their time of need.
