The introduction of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, has amended the Housing Act 1996, from 5 July 2021, people who are homeless as a result of domestic abuse have automatic priority need if the abuse meets the definition in the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
As part of the legislative changes we have an exciting vacancy for a Homelessness Prevention Officer (Domestic Abuse) to join Strategic Housing and work across the Council and external services leading on the assessment and allocations of the Safer Homes Pilot in Rochdale Borough Council, preventing Domestic Abuse, and those at risk of homelessness or have a housing need as a result of Domestic Abuse.
The post holders will be responsible for completing comprehensive plans, pre-referral checklists, Co-ordinating services to complete a full risk assessment of the property and surrounding area to assess for its suitability for Safer Homes and any associated risk factors.
This will include liaising with partner agencies, ensuring the Safer Homes initiatives are being completed within set timescales, ensuring a consistent standard of service, any trades people are using a trauma informed approach, and people receiving the Safer Homes service continue to feel safe in their homes.
The role requires a person that has key communication skills, both written and verbal as you will be required to interview customers to understand their situation and determine how we can best assist them.
This is a statutory service and so you will either possess or have an aptitude to learn, digest and apply legislation consistently, fairly and transparently in order to make evidenced based, legal decisions.
We require an individual who is passionate about the real-life difference that homelessness provision makes in our community and you will want to be a pro-active part of our service achieving that aim.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and well-rounded candidate, who has an outstanding track record of building and maintaining relevant relationships, who is a creative thinker, with superb written and verbal communication skills
An in-depth knowledge of homelessness and housing legislation, and experience of domestic abuse is essential.
