Job Summary:



To assist in the preparation and delivery of clinical assessments, interventions, administration and audit under clinical supervision.

Pay:



16.00 per hour (gross) - 37.5 hours per week

Holiday entitlement:



28 days plus public holidays

Base:



The postholder will be based at our Consulting Rooms in Carmarthen but may be required to travel to work with Dr Ryan-Morgan in her Harley Street practice in London from time to time. Travel and accommodation will be fully funded.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



To review clinical records, as directed, to assist in the planning of complex neuropsychological assessments

To carry out routine Neuropsychological assessments with patients, as appropriate, under the direction of the Clinical Neuropsychologists.

To participate in weekly waiting list management meetings

To carry out specific clinical interventions, under the supervision of the Clinical Neuropsychologists.

To assist in the formulation and delivery of assessment and care plans involving the neuropsychological intervention, under the supervision of the Clinical Neuropsychologists.

To plan and run relevant therapeutic programmes under clinical supervision. To collect outcome measures to evaluate such work.

To form positive working relationships with colleagues, referrers and partner agencies. To assist the Clinical Neuropsychologists in providing advice to professional colleagues on the psychological assessment and intervention of patients referred to the service.

To be a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team for named patients and to attend meetings, as appropriate, reporting back clinical findings and patient involvement.

To contribute to the writing of clinical reports and to keep clinical records to agreed service standards.

To engage in and make optimum use of regular clinical supervision, in accordance with professional practice guidelines, in order to monitor and inform clinical practice and identify areas of need for further personal and professional development.

To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of a clinical neuropsychology service, including non-clinical aspects of the role.

To assist in the training and teaching of support staff.

To assist and liaise in the design and implementation of service developments within the service.

To attend and contribute in meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.

To attend all relevant training events, including Talis arranged/delivered events.

To develop relevant therapy skills.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant research and treatments; this will involve regular literature and internet searching, as well as discussing this in scheduled supervision sessions.

To carry out data collection and analysis of clinical work as directed; using appropriate I.T. and statistical programmes.

To develop a database of service provision with records of outcome measure scores and any other appropriate data.

To remain up to date with current knowledge and guidelines regarding theory and practice in the practice of Clinical Neuropsychology, in order that best practice is developed and maintained.

To perform literature reviews and produce summary documents in areas directed by the Clinical Supervisor(s).

To support senior colleagues in any research activities done within the service.

To maintain an up to date record of all test materials, including timely ordering of replacement resources, as needed.

To ensure communication with all necessary and relevant parties is maintained, utilising Sharepoint and Outlook.

To maintain detailed records of clinical activity, as directed by Clinical Supervisor(s).

To receive regular clinical and managerial supervision. To reflect on this supervision and to implement any advice given.

To undertake appropriate training, and will, as a matter of course, keep updated on developments relevant to work undertaken.

To adhere to appropriate professional standards, as set out in the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles and Guidelines.

To attend all relevant meetings and take minutes or action notes of evaluation meetings when requested.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the BPS.

To undertake other reasonable duties as required, compatible with the remit of the post.

To prepare assessment materials as directed.

To undertake specific administrative duties as directed.

GENERAL



Job Limitations:

At no time should the post holder work outside their defined level of competence. If the post holder has concerns regarding this, they should immediately discuss them with their manager. All staff have a responsibility to inform those supervising their duties if they are not competent to perform a duty.

Confidentiality:

In line with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Caldicott Principles of Confidentiality, the post holder will be expected to maintain confidentiality in relation to personal and patient information including clinical and non-clinical records, as outlined in the contract of employment. This legal duty of confidentiality continues to apply after an employee has left Talis Consulting Limited. The post holder may access information only on a need to know basis in the direct discharge of duties and divulge information only in the proper course of duties.

Health & Safety:

The post holder is required to ensure health and safety duties and requirements are complied with. It is the post holder's personal responsibility to conform to procedures, rules and codes of practice; and to use properly and conscientiously all safety equipment, devices, protective clothing and equipment which is fitted or made available, and to attend training courses as required.

Risk Management:

The post holder will be required to comply with Health and Safety Policies and actively participate in this process, having responsibility for managing risks and reporting exceptions.

Records Management

: The post holder has a duty to maintain the highest levels of data quality for all records through accurate and comprehensive recording across the entire range of media they might use.

Qualifications -

An upper second-class honours degree or higher in Psychology.

Eligibility for graduate basis for chartership with the British Psychological Society

Additional training in relevant areas e.g. Neuropsychological testing

A postgraduate degree in a related area of applied psychology

Experience -

Significant relevant clinical experience.

Experience of applying clinical / neuropsychology in the NHS (under supervision).

Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.

Previous experience of audit and/or service evaluation.

Skills -

Ability to use high level communication skills in both spoken and written communication, including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.

An ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to patients, carers and colleagues.

An ability to interact with people with psychological problems.

Competence in research design and methodologies.

Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a neuropsychological context and an understanding of Psychology as applied to health care.

Ability to plan and prioritise own workload.

An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and be involved in training members of staff.

Ability to work independently with clinical supervision.

Special Knowledge -

Ability to carry out standardised Neuropsychological assessments.
