Salary: \xc2\xa325,138 to \xc2\xa338,205 per annum. This is a developmental post, the successful candidate has the opportunity to progress through the grades detailed in the job description on completion of agreed objectives.

The team

ITS (Innovation and Technology Services) is the University\'s IT directorate, responsible for the maintenance and onward development of IT Services that support the University\'s business needs and the development and design of innovative new services in support of the University\'s Digital Strategy.

The role

The HPC Administrator is a specialist role at the University and will be a key member of the ITS team, working closely with colleagues across a number of teams and schools at the University.

Entry into this role at Grade 4 would suit a recent graduate or individual with some supporting knowledge and a keen interest in High Performance Computing (HPC).

Entry into this role at Grade 5 would suit an individual with existing experience in supporting IT infrastructure and a keen interest in High Performance Computing (HPC).

Entry into this role at Grade 6 would suit individual with existing experience in supporting IT infrastructure, software and applications suites in High Performance Computing (HPC) environment.

ITS are in the early stages of configuration and deployment of our HPC & Lab environment

Key Requirements:

When apply at Grade 4 (to develop to Grade 5 initially):

  • Demonstrable experience of server operating systems (Linux or Windows)
  • General knowledge of ICT Systems, applications and networking
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with database technologies
  • Experience of modern development languages and methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organised, analytical.
  • Prepared to undertake significant professional development to progress.
When apply at Grade 5 (to develop to Grade 6), in addition to those at Grade 4:
  • Demonstrable experience of server operating systems (Linux AND Windows) and management in an enterprise virtualisation platform.
  • Experience managing ICT Systems, applications and networking
  • Experience deploying Windows desktops in an enterprise environment
  • Understanding of ICT security and information security principles
  • Experience automating monitoring and administrative tasks
  • Experience of working as part of a project team in an environment that utilises project management methodologies
  • Prepared to undertake significant professional development to progress
  • Ability to interact with groups at all levels within the University.
When apply at Grade 6, in addition to those at Grade 4 and Grade 5:
  • Formal vendor-backed ICT qualification(s)
  • Experience of working with formal service management frameworks
  • Experience administering a HPC environment in a HE and research setting.
  • Experience of prioritising a range of complex tasks
  • Experience of troubleshooting complex technical issues and providing options based recommended solutions.
  • Experience of presenting solutions and information in a meaningful way to a range of stakeholders

Additional information

ITS operate within the University Agile working arrangements, which provide flexibility around working location depending on role requirements. Due to the nature of this post, it is anticipated that the post holder will be required to be regularly onsite, at our York campus on average for one or two days per week. The first few weeks are likely to require full time attendance onsite at our York campus.
