Overnight stays are paid at an additional rate of 26.20 per night

A Day In The Life Of A Class 1 HGV Driver At Chadkirk Transport:
Morning:
Start of Day: Your day will typically start early, between 04:00 - 08:00 AM, at our depot in Romiley, Stockport or from your overnight location.
Pre-Trip Inspection: You'll perform a thorough start of day inspection of your vehicle to ensure it's in top condition.
Depart from Depot/Overnight Location: Begin your journey, heading towards your first delivery or collection point. Our deliveries span various locations across the UK, including major cities like London, Birmingham, and Manchester.
First Delivery/Collection: Arrive at the customer site, where you'll professionally handle the loading or unloading of goods. This may involve some manual handling, so being physically fit is beneficial.
Documentation: Ensure all necessary documentation is accurately completed, recorded on company apps via your smartphone and physically signed for by the customer.
Throughout The Day:
Second Delivery/Collection: Continue to your next destination. You'll often find yourself navigating through both urban and rural areas, experiencing a variety of driving conditions.
Breaks: Throughout the day you will receive multiple breaks including 2 x 45-minute paid breaks during a day which you drive for over 9 hours +, this will ensure you have time to rest and recharge.
Further Deliveries/Collections: As the day progresses, you'll potentially make additional stops.
Communication with the Transport Manager and customers is key to ensuring timely deliveries.
Vehicle, Load & Equipment Checks: Regularly check your vehicle, your loads and equipment throughout the day, reporting any issues to the Transport Manager promptly.
Evening:
Return to Depot/Overnight Stay: Depending on varying factors such as your route, traffic conditions, your next delivery or collection and driving hours you may return to the depot or be required to stay overnight in a night sleeper cab. For nights spent away, you'll receive an additional 26.20 per night out.
Post-Trip Inspection: At the end of your day, conduct a post-trip inspection to maintain our high standards of vehicle care.
End of Day: Your day will typically finish between 16:00 - 20:00 PM, at our depot in Romiley,
Stockport or an overnight location. Where possible our drivers' overnight stays are completed in registered truck stops.
Role, Variation & Reward:
Role: The role of a Class 1 HGV driver is both challenging and rewarding. It requires a high level of mental concentration and physical fitness. The job demands a significant amount of driving, often over long distances, which means spending many hours on the road as well as loading and unloading the vehicle multiple times a day and overnight stays. This can be tiring and requires excellent time management skills to ensure timely deliveries. Despite the physically demanding nature and long hours, the role is incredibly rewarding. Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking a hard-working and motivated Class 1 driver who values continuous personal development.
As a FORS Silver Company, our drivers undertake regular training and refresher courses. The ideal candidate will be polite, time-efficient, and passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Professionally carry out collections and deliveries
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and collections using documentation provided and utilising the company's bespoke mobile phone-based app.
- Drive responsibly and adhere to all driving legislation
- Perform daily vehicle and report defects to the Transport Manager
- Check and report any lost or defective equipment
- Always represent the Company's values professionally
- Perform additional tasks and duties as required
Essential Requirements:
- Valid HGV Class 1 licence held for at least one year
- No more than 6 points on the licence
- Valid driver CPC card
- Valid digital tachograph card
- No criminal convictions
- Flexibility for early starts and late finishes and overnight stays
Desirable Requirements:
- Located near to Chadkirk HQ in Stockport, Greater Manchester
- Good knowledge of the UK Highways
- Familiar with laws relating to drivers hours, working time directive and tachograph regulations
- ADR (Hazardous Goods) Trained.
- Forklift Licence
