Job Details
With one of our valued team members moving on to progress in their learning by travelling abroad, we are looking for a fresh candidate to join our team milking 550 organic, spring calving herd based in Misson, nr Bawtry.
About us
Misson Organic Dairying Ltd is a dairy farming business which began in 2016 on a Greenfield site. Supplying Omsco on a non-antibiotic contract for the past four seasons. We have been a closed herd since the start, rearing our own replacements and sell beef calves off at 2 weeks. We have the fantastic ability to irrigate grassland and soil types that allow us to graze cows all through the winter. We take pride in developing team members and seeing them succeed within the dairy industry. We work hard to make sure our dairy farming is enjoyable and rewarding while providing a high welfare for the cows we care for with a prevention approach to everything we do.
The herd at Misson is predominantly Irish Friesian based with a breeding policy for a cow that will produce milk off grass, with great fertility and the ability to thrive in an outwintering situation. Calving starts in March with heifer calves fed in batches of twenty and moved out onto a milk bar in groups of forty.
Main diet is grass with concentrates fed in the parlour with silage added as grass growth declines. Winter feeding of the herd is silage and grazed fodder beet by day and grass by night. The milking herd remains on this all winter until dry then moves onto a dry cow feed of hay and silage until calving.
Youngstock have winter feed of grass and bales striped grazed all winter. Further investment is to be made in cow tracks with a recent purchase of Cow Manager heat and health detection system to assist in the running of the farm. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of a forward-thinking business on a farm that has unique attributes in how we milk cows off forage.
