HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS PROJECT WORKER



YMCA Cardiff delivers youth work services and support projects to thousands of young people every year.

Location: YMCA, Roath, Cardiff

Hours: 37.5 hours per week between the hours of 9am - 10pm Monday to Sunday, (flexibility is expected to suit the needs of the project and young people). This will be discussed further at interview.

Starting Salary: 26871 per Annum

Contract: 12 month contract to 31st March 2026, subject to continued funding

JOB PURPOSE:

The Healthy Relationship Worker will be responsible for identifying, developing, delivering and evaluating outreach activities which support the sexual health and wellbeing of young people in Cardiff, with a particular focus on vulnerable young people and those at risk.

The closing date for application is Friday 30th May . Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an informal chat. Successful applications at the first stage of interview will then progress to the second stage where you will attend a trial shift with our team.

POST:

Healthy Relationships Project Worker (part of the Sexual Health Outreach Team)

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Senior Project Worker

HOURS:

37.5 hours per week between the hours of 9am - 10pm Monday to Sunday, (flexibility is expected to suit the needs of the project and young people)

once a successful probation period of three months has ben completed an option to opt in to our 4 day working week is offered.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:



The Healthy Relationship Worker will be responsible for identifying, developing, delivering and evaluating outreach activities which support the sexual health and wellbeing of young people in Cardiff, with a particular focus on vulnerable young people and those at risk.

Main duties



1. To provide a support service to young people across Cardiff, working in partnership with statutory, voluntary professions and families to ensure young people are supported with their sexual health and relationship needs. Specific responsibilities:



a) To plan, deliver and evaluate outreach activities which support the sexual health and wellbeing of young people in Cardiff, with a particular focus on vulnerable young people and those at risk.

b) To have a good understanding of current issues affecting young people with a focus on relationships and sexual health.

c) Offer 1-2-1 support tailored to meet the individual needs of young people by:

a. Advice and information to support young people in their sexual health and relationships needs

b. Supporting the young people to access sexual health clinics and other appropriate services

c. Providing 1-2-1 support

d. Providing group work interventions for those referred with highlighted needs

d) Work with local and national partners to support young people to gain access to appropriate information and advice in relation to relationships and sexual health.

e) Maintain up to date records of young people identified and supported using systems already developed by YMCA Cardiff

f) Liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations to:

a. Identify and support young people deemed at risk of CSE and other risk-taking behaviours

g) Conduct on-going evaluations of service using feedback from the young people and professionals

2. To assist with and promote the services of the Sexual Health Outreach Team:



a) To assist in the day-to-day administration and co-ordination of Cardiff C-Card Scheme.

b) Ensure that information on the project is accessible and kept up to date, and maintain an online presence through our social media platforms

c) Identify opportunities for partnership working

d) Publicise and promote support for young people with all relevant agencies and organisations

e) Encourage and progress new referrals to the service in a timely fashion

f) Develop new and build on existing partnerships with professionals to embed the need to identify and support young people into their working practices

g) Provide progress reports and regular work plans for line manager, Board Members and funders as required

To carry out other duties that reasonably fall within the scope of the post:-



a) Responding to emergencies / crisis.

b) Attendance at meetings deemed appropriate by the Senior Project Worker.

c) Participation in training and supervision.

d) You must work constructively with other departments within the YMCA Cardiff Group.

e) Assisting with jobs that usually fall to another member of staff but in whose absence, failure to carry out the work would present a risk or offence to others or would be detrimental to the organisations' service provision.

f) To adhere to and be aware of the Associations policies and procedures, including GDPR, code of conduct, Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.

g) To be able to respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values

Essential



EDUCATION



Qualification in Youth & Community; Social Work; Public Health or a similar role

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE



Proven track record of working with young people Experience of delivering issue based workshops and programmes to individuals and groups Knowledge and experience in session planning and evaluation Understanding and value of equality and diversity in the workplace Experience of liaising with external agencies and partnership working Knowledge of services available for young people with experience of signposting and referring to relevant agencies

SKILLS



Organisational skills: Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and time Ability to make decisions Ability to manage difficult situations and challenging behavior with young people Ability to relate to young people from a wide range of backgrounds Ability to empathise and offer age appropriate support
